Turning off the "gong"

ok, so apparently, there's a fuse for almost everything as far as lighting goes on the interior of the car. it's # 21 on my car...it also controls "fasten seat belt gong" and "ignition key warning gong". my car makes niether of these sounds, and the fuse is fine, as everything else works. how would one disable these sounds (not that i want to re-enable them, just for reference if i were to get a new car that did have those sounds enabled)? thanks

The gong is directly under the steering wheel, mounted above the kick panel. all you would have to do is pull the plug on it.

ok thanks. that leads me to wonder where to pull the plug for the turn signal from...any ideas?

ya, i feel like a retard...i meant the clicking sound for the turn signals, not the turn signals themselves...i'd just pull the lights out or not use the switch at all if i didn't want the signals. i just hate that damn clicking sound.

you can't disable the clicking noise AND keep your turn signals in working order. the clicking is the relay that turns the light on and off. Without the clicking there is no on and off. The only thing you could do is get a quieter one at a store. Then you would probably have to re-wire the relay because it wouldn't fit cause it would be for a different car. They probably don't make quiet ones for e30's but whatever.

Is it really that bad for you??

the turn signal flasher

it is above the steering column.

It uses a standard 3 wire connector so there are many replacements available.

To quite it down, wrap with foam and tape.

i'm 18 not 80. i know if i turned my signal on or not. and if it's a relay, you can bypass it. dad's an electrical engineer, i'll find a way.

you can't BYPASS the relay that controls the blinking of the lights. Even a burt out bulb can effect how the relay functions. You can make it quieter by wrapping it or buy a different one. I really don't want to be an ass but what the heck is wrong with you? You can't be this anal. Its a turn signal and its only on during a turn.

and some have been replaced with a metal covered relay.

Those round metal relays can be heard outside of the car during a turn signal usagage.

They sound like the cricket noise toys famous as cracker jack toy, or the film the longest day.

I find this solution works well on a lot of different problems in the car.
