Vacuum Leak/Disconnect

Resently added a cool air intake to my 1989 325iS and soon found out that under hard acceleration or if I attemp to spin my tires, the vaccum hose becomes unplugged from my intake manifold. This happends because the filter is not in the same position as the stock filter, and puts a little stress on the vaccum tube, to where it either leaks or pulls out. Besides fabricating a new braket to reposition the filter, is there a sealer or glue you would recommend to put on the tube to keep it from slipping? Ill post a picture of exactly what piece is comming loose as soon as i can. Thanks, Peyton

Are you referring to the rubber bellows that connected the airbox to the throttle body? If so, that's not a vacuum hose.

If you are referring to the rubber bellows, does it not have clamps on it to fasten it to the throttle body and air filter housing? It should.

Does it look to big to you? May that cause some problems during acceleration?
Very well could be. The way that rubber bellow is sealed on is by clamping it between the two little 'ridges' on the end of the air flow meter.

Question - do you have an air box on there? Or do you have some kind of 'cold air intake?' I don't see the airbox under the air flow meter.

its a cold air intake, the problem started when I took out the air box and installed the cone filter, because i had to fabricate a new bracket, the positioning of the AFM and hose isnt the same so i think its putting stress on the other parts. Im going to try some things.

I would HIGHLY reccomend putting the stock air box back on. More than a few guys who know what they are talking about, did tests on different filter setups. They found the highest flowing and ironically best filtering filter is the stock Mahle (or mann, I forget) filter from the dealer, with the stock airbox. The stock airbox is already a VERY efficient cold air intake (hence the reason it pulls air from outside the engine bay...)

PLUS if you are using a cone filter, with no shield between the cone filter and the entire engine bay, you are getting MUCH MUCH MUCH less power. Generally, every 10 degrees F = 1 horsepower. If you're sucking in 150 degree air from under the hood you're going to lose quite a bit of power than if you were using air from outside the car being something like 80 degrees...

That elbow "tube" shifts constantly in my '87 325i as well. I think it is more a function of age than anyting else. My intake system is all factory. The aluminuim elbow on the opposite side of the throttle body also readily slides in and out with very little force.
