I admit it, I was thinking what is BMW doing? Have they lost their minds? I was wrong in my initial thoughts about the X3. After looking at the X3 today I sure think it is an awesome machine. I am going to California next week to test drive one. I am very interested in how they handle.

I would also check out CPO X5s, as the X3 is a bit cheap on the inside and the styling is somewhat controversial. The X5 interior is very nice.
I agree. I really like the X3 exterior a lot, but the interior is sketchy if best. After we had that horrible accident in our X5, I was really scared to drive my 330cic. I went to our dealer and test drove an X3,,,,I knew we were gonna replace the X5, and I though I would trade my cic for a loaded X3.

The X3 interior is the closest thing German cars have to a Ford Focus, Pontiac Sunfire or Kia Sephia. BMW could have made the X3 awesome, if they would have just sourced parts from the 3 series mixed with the X5. Of all our Bimmers, I really think the X5 interior is so solid, and perfectly designed. Everytime we have someone ride in our X5, they are so impressed with the interior details and quality....just had a new CL55 AMG owner take a ride in our X5....and he was amazed how the interior of a $70,000 car felt better than his $120,000 car.

Look at the X5 new or CPO. You'll like the X3, you'll Love the X5!!!

70K X5 Wow, I have never seen one that high. Must drive itself:)
Its an X5 4.8is per his sig. It runs essentially the engine from the Alpina Z8, although I believe the tuning is slightly different for more low end torque.

The X3 may not match the X5 interior, but it is far from being shoddy or poorly executed, I find it has a rugged and lasting look of quality, I did not go out looking for a vehicle that would provide all the comforts of home, but one that I could feel was a driving machine, and at the same time gave me all the good things that I feel I need when I get in it and drive for a long time. I think BMW got it just right withone exception, which is the ride. It could be a lot softer and still be the fine vehicle that I think it is.

My wife got an X3 as a loaner car while the sport wagon was getting some touchup work done to it and she was not a fan of it at all. She liked the wagon much better.

Of course, this is all personal opinion.
