Water in the engine

My 540 died in last Friday's monsoon. Only about 8 inches water, but apparently enough to allow water to flood the combustion chambers. I tried to start several times after the water subsided, only to be met with a gruesome, very short ker-phung, ker-phung sound. My mechanic thought I'd need a new engine, but was surprised to find that after removing the spark plugs, then starting the vehicle, about a gallon of water spewed out the exhaust pipe, and things seem to be back to normal. Obviously there were abnormal stresses on the timing chain, tie rods, and crank shaft. My question to you all is: have any of you experienced anything similar? Are my engine's days numbered? Should I ditch the car for a new model. It is a 2001 with 55,000 miles on it. [target]

Dude get that thing serviced properly. All they have to do is replace some parts and nothing to it really but sometimes mechanics (hacks) try to sell you more than is needed. But if I'm correct taking to the dealership is ur best bet but thats gonna be a bit $$. Don't run it like your doing it thats bad for it (water + engine = not good). Good thing u pulled out those spark plugs because u can be oxidising some parts as we speak. Oil needs to be changed, trans oil and the little clutches it has if you have an automatic, some stuff that really shouldn't be more than 2k but I'm not sure really, never happend to me. Be sure to find a technician that knows what he's doing, not all techs know how to restore a vehicle that was flooded.

Find out ;) and do it quick too!
