i have a 82' 320iS i just bought last week. the paint is less than perfect as you could immagine. the past few days ive been using clay compound on the car and it has been doing a lot of good. the paint looks and feels alot better. the only thing that i can say that has been frying my ass is the fact that there are water spots on the paint. they look like they have been there a long time, like many years. they wont come off. my buddy who has been helping me has a 74' 2002 and still had the orignal paint which shines like new. we both cant figure out how to get them off. anybody got any ideas?

If they are etched into the paint..., there is no removing them(at least that I know of).

Your first try should be white distilled vinegar.
If it will not remove it..., I don't know what will...

Wayne is correct in that if they are etched into the top coat they are pretty much there to stay.

One might venture into wetsanding the surface and then buffing the paint out BUT this is not a undertaking for the weekend warrior but rather the qualified professional.

If that road is not one you wish to take then find a nice glaze and cover them up as much as possible and live with it.
