Hello everybody.

Last week i had a problem with my 528i 2000.
The car wasnt blowing any air at all inside the cabin from anywere, the fan indicator was showing full blow but no air comming in at all.
I took it to a local mechanic who i trust and after checking out all fuses and power going @ the blower motor, he told me my blower motor must be dead since the fuses were fine and there was power going to the blower motor.
Since he was bussy i was to go after 3 days to change the blower motor.

2 days latter. Warming up my engine before i drive off and i notices The REST button next to the -(negative) reducing fan speed button. Pressed that a couple of time and air started to blow in. Does this make any sence ? Whats that REST button 4 ?
Thank you in advance.

the blower motor is not dead and if your "mechanic" told you this stop trusting him becasue he has no idea what he is doing. What you need to have replaced first before the expensive ass blower motor is the final stage resistor. It senses the air temperatur in the heater box and changes the blower speed accordingly to what you have the temerature set on. You guys call the dealerships a rip off. As for the rest button, i could be wrong on this beacsue it has been a while since i have been to school for this car but i am almost sure that the function is for when you stop to fuel the vehicle or for any other reason, you press that button with the key on engine off and it activates the secondary water pump to keep other passengers in the vehicle warm while the vehicle is off.

Ok 2 days ago temp outside was @ 45 f and my temp was set at 74 f . Fan showed full thrust but no air whatsoever comming out. U see Nathan I understand if its blowing some kinda of air but its not. I did read about final stage resistor and i am not sure if thats the problem cause its not blowing at all. What do u think ?

i had a similar problem with my mercedes benz...... the fan motors get power but will not turn on because of a switch that is located somewhere else...... that is most likely your problem..... the resistors or switch unit are usually located on the blowers themselves..... have you checked that out yet? hopefully i was a little helpful.....but dont qoute me on this because a mercedes is a different car...

not to be a dick but mercedes and bmw are two differnet worlds. But yes the fan will blow nothing one day blow low another day, blow intermittent another. the final stage will make your blower do a lot of crazy things. That is what i would replace first if a car came in and this was the issue.

Ok i went to bmw dealer explained my problem and told them that my blower just didnt blow anything at all at any stages. They said that in that case is my blower motor, not my final stage resistor. But I was almost sure they were wrong soo i still bought the resistor anyways and i was right. My blower works fine now and from 500$ that i would have to pay to replace the actual blower motor, i spend 100 dollar for the final stage resistor.
68 $ the part and 40$ labor soo not bad
Thank You Everyone
