Are you sure about 1 & 2?

For (1), all other BMW models have heated mirrors active all the time. I can't believe they would leave this out on the X3 especially since it is an SAV. It is not a selectable on/off. Touch your outside mirror surfaces after the veicle has been running a few minutes and see if they are warm to the touch.

For (2), the "door ajar" indicator is part of the multi-function display. That's the pictorial display of the vehicle and it's systems below the speedo. It shows the status of all the doors (incl hatch), the lights and other things. Again I would be shocked if BMW left this out as it exists in some fashion on all their other models.

The X5 does have a "door open" (and open tailgate) warning but it's activated only when the vehicle is in motion. Heated mirrors are available if not standard, I don't recall which.

Here's a feature I would like to see in the X3:
Low-Range Gear. I know this is not an SUV intended for heavy duty off-roading but sometimes in really deep unplowed snow, I do have to resort to using Low Range. Although this deep unplowed snow is not on the roads, I actually go looking for it.

MrElussive, I think that would be a great idea, in fact I would be very happy trading the fifth gear on the six box, as I quite frequently go from fourth to sixth. I know it's not that simple, but it would be a great feature to have a granny gear.
Also I would like to see the new air leveling systems available,(shades of Citroen), this would answer the gripes of a hard ride on dirt roads, etc. See BMW Roundel Oct mag, which covers two new systems. One provided by "Bose" and the other by "Praxis" which is owned by Bridgestone. It would be fantastic if we could get this ride with instantaneous corrections through a computer for rough road.
Finally, in the same issue is an artical on BMW's six cylinder diesel which is bi-turbo assisted, and shown on page 58 is a X5 that won it's class in the Dakar Rally using this engine. It produces 272hp. Now if all that equipement for two turboes can fit under the hood, why can we not get one under the hood of an X3 3.0 gas engine for about 300hp. I sure wouldn't miss that fifth gear, and it would be one hell of a machine. I know we are not likely to see a BMW diesel engine overhere until we get better diesel fuel mandated for the states. regards, chuck abbott
