A paddock car for those of you not from down under, is a car that is usually no longer able to be economically brought up to road legal standard and so has been relegated for thrashing around grassy "fields". aka paddocks in new zealand speak. We use tyres and road cones to mark out a track and regularly have informal gymkhanas with friends that usually involve a bbq and beers (not so many that the driving is dangerous - that happens after the racing).

Paddock e30 (manual 323i with lots of weight reduction and a locked/welded diff.)

Pictures were taken on my property not the last gymkhana but the one before. Mostly friends of mine with bmws but a few other friends without bmws and a few others from the bmw club I hadn't met before.

Ah yes, the wonderful sport of paddock bashing!
Nothing beats getting the chance to thrash the hell out of a car and not worry about if it will work afterwards!!
I've done this except with an old dutsun ute that had its rear subframe almose fully detached from the car, thing would swing out giving the feeling of it "drifting"
Good times!
Nice pictures Graham, poor old e30 :( what was wrong with the thing to justify paddock bashing it?

It had a frontal that made it uneconomical to fix - was bought for $500 for the gearbox which will eventually go in another car if it's not rooted. So far 8 hours valve bouncing on the limiter round the track and still going hard - It runs better than my street car!

Doughnut - where in Oz are you? May be heading over next year.

More interesting pics taken on same day of a few streeters giving it a go:

I live 2 hours south of Sydney in a little town called Kiama in NSW :D

Make it your mission to ride on our harbour ferries in Sydney, I dont know how long those old things will be working as they have had so many accidents...
