E30 engine pic

ok..if you look at the side of the intake manifold facing the camera, you can see that in the middle just above the engine head, there's a small, rounded, triangular piece attatched by three bolts. there is a hose that leads to the front (right of the pic) of the car and leads to who knows what. what does that triangular piece do? i took that triangular piece off and all i can see is the inside of the intake manifold (surprise, surprise, i know) and the...i think it's called throttle plates or something...basically the butterfly valve. if anyone can tell me what that triangular piece with the hose attatched to it does, i'd appreciate it. thanks in advance.

It's just a plate that blocks the hole in the intake manifold. This hole is where the eta engine in the 325e gets the idle air from - the idle air control motor attaches via a hose here. The cold start injector on the eta engine also injects fuel at this hole. Check out the pic of the engine of my car in the link in my sig.

No.... you need that hose. Without it the fuel pressure regulator will not work properly. This will lead to improper fuel pressure. Fix the hose.

The "eta" engine came in teh 325,e,es models. It had a cold start injector at that vacum port plate. With the Motronic 1.1 system that came on later cars the cold start injector was not needed. All the injector did was put extra fuel into the engine for a few seconds when starting the engine cold.
