Put my son in to the car seat today in the back of my 99 528 and the passenger side rear footwell was soaked. I mean totally soaked, the floormat weighed 10 lbs when I took it out and twisted the water out of it. There wasn't any water anywhere else, the doors were closed, the windows were up and though it has been raining cats and dogs here, I can't figure out how it got there. It looks like someone poured two gallons of water just in the footwell and nowhere else. What could this be?

The most likely cause is a door vapor barrier (behind the door panel) is not sealed completely allowing water running down the door glass to drip inside. Not uncommon when repairs are made inside a door and the v/barrier is not sealed up again.

The drains go inside the A and C pilars. There are four of them at the four corners of the car. The sunroof has 4 plastic tubes coming off it and at the points where the roof meets the pilars, they connect to soft rubber tubes that go down through the pilars. One of mine came off and my floor was drenched just like yours. I'd check all of them out but you would need to take all the pilar panels off. You might want to secure all of them with cable ties or the like. Hope you get it resolved.

if it were a sunroof drain that came off there would be noticeable water markings on the c pillar and the headliner. The most likely casue was stated above about he door vapor barrier. reguardless if you have had work done inside the door or not it still could have lost in's sealing ability and let the water drip in. This has been seen in our shop multiple times and is 99.9 percent of time the vapor barrier.

Not necesairly would there be water markings on the pilars, mine were perfectly fine and yet I had a puddle of water on the floor. The drain tubes are inside the pilars, they don'w even come close to the interior panels, they are encased in metal so the water just comes down inside that and then finds its way between the door and the seat.

Plus, the pilar interior panels are plastic on the inside (as far as I remember) so water wouldn't even get to the cloth.

WOW! all i have to say about that is NO.
The drains are not encased in metal they attach at the sunroof casette the casette has plastic drain tubes and there are rubber sections of tube that connect to the cassette. the tubes are plastic as they run down the c pillar and a pillar but where they would leak is at the headliner which is not plastic on the inside so when it soaked through and ran down and saturated it would get the cloth wet on the c pillar trim. i fyou don't believe me take one apart. I have had many apart.

I don't believe you because that’s what happened to me and I did take all four corners apart and not only were there no water markings but I didn't even see any signs of water.

By encased in metal I meant, they are inside the a and c pillars, they are not between the interior panel and the pillar, they are inside the pillars (the plastic tubes that is).

You are correct, the drains leak where the plastic tubes connect to the "sunroof cassette" because they just disconnect. Gravity would carry the water down the pillars. Actually, I don't even want to try to explain and reason through this because I've had this problem and I know that water collects behind the front seats (when the leak is in the back) and I also know that in that case there are no water markings on the cloth of any interior panels except for the carpet. I've had this leak for over half a year if not a year until I finally got to the bottom of it and even after all that time, there were no water markings (the car is never garaged and I personally wash it religiously).

What I would like to say is, the person who asked for advice heard both sides and there is no reason for us to argue about things like this.
