The 545i could be purchased from BMW with either 17's or 18's. The consideration I would have are damage and ride quality. The larger diameter the wheel the less sidewall the tire is going to have (if you maintain the original and correct overall diameter) and the more likely you are to bend or brake a wheel. I just damaged a 17 inch on my M roadster. Ride quality also goes down as the wheel gets bigger.

I have 20's, but sometimes I do feel a shimmy on the steering wheel

The ride, for me anyways, still feels like when I had the 17" stock

my tires are 245-35
