Hi Guys

Car is not actually mine, but posting for a friend. He has a 2001 with 155k miles regularly serviced and wants to know when things will start falling apart. So far no serious work has been required, to date only the AFM and an injector have been replaced, also the brakes were problematic for a while.

Use involes lots of highway mileage and the car is usually driven with care, and rarely heavily loaded.

I'm assuming that the turbo will fail soon, and the transmission won't last for ever, but I don't know about headgaskets, rings, bearings, valve guides etc. What typically happens to these cars and how soon will it become impractial to rely on it as a daily workhorse?

Thanks in advance

My 2003 530i has 181k miles on is still very reliable. It has the gasoline motor which is using a quart of oil every 2.5k miles. It has a 5 speed manual and still has the original clutch. My last BMW was a 320i with the steptronic transmission which started to slip at around 170K miles. I hope this helps.

I still have the car. It now has 213,000 miles on it and is going strong. Oil usage is still about a quart every 1300 miles. Sell the car when you're tired of it.
