Five Reportedly Shot at Maryland High School
RANDALLSTOWN, Md. (May 7) - Gunfire erupted at a Baltimore County high school Friday afternoon, injuring five people, a police dispatcher said.
Television reports said a charity basketball game involving state lawmakers was being held inside the school when the shootings occurred, apparently outside the school.
All but one of the victims suffered life-threatening or potentially life-threatening injuries, said Cpl. John Young, the police dispatcher.
The shooting occurred about 4:30 p.m. at Randallstown High School. Witnesses saw someone leave the scene in a black BMW with tinted glass windows, the dispatcher said.
A car matching the description was found nearby and a man was taken into custody, a witness told WMAR-TV.
A woman who answered the telephone at the school's main office said school officials could not comment because "clearly, they are trying to contact families." She would not identify herself or her position.
Randallstown High School is located in northwest Baltimore County. It has 1,700 students and a staff of 115, according to the Baltimore County public schools Web site.
