I went to go look at a 91 525i today that a lady at my job is selling. her husband came by with the car and he was asking 3,500 for the POS but i talked him down to $1,800 but i still don't think i should buy it so i will let you guys help me decide. I am going to put all that I saw that was visibly wrong with it....well, things that I would have to fix just to make the car worthy of me.
Year: 1991 525i
Color: Green
Mileage: 202k
Seats: Driver and rear seats look good but the fron passenger seat is totally jacked up... might need a new seat.
Door panel (interior): Just about all of them are jacked up, They are still present but all lifting up
Roof (interior): The famous sagging roof. How many of us have seen that?
Engine:
As far as I can tell the engine looks great and sounds pretty good but some of the obvious needed attention.
Reservoir tank needs replacement. He did tell me about that but its very obvious once you open the hood so there was no hiding it. The AC doesn't work..It turns on and off but according to him might need recharging..we all know that you don't just recharge an AC, especially a 91 which might be a R12 system (this is just a guess)
We took the car out for a little test drive on the highway...He steps on the gas but wouldn't you know it just felt like it was slipping out of first gear..According to him, The rear end needs 90 weight oil to stop doing that. Once it came out of first gear it ran rather smooth with the shifting so I don't know if he is telling the truth about it or not
Tires look fairly decent so I am not too worried about that. The brake lining indicator came on the OBC but that's almost the least yet it still factors in the price.
Exterior:
The body of the car looks decent...no major dings or anything like that but It might need a hell of a wax job or possibly a paint job.
I talked him down to $1,800 but I told him I wouldn't spend any more than $1,500 total. I need your expertise on this guys...is it even worth the trouble?
