I just ordered a X5 4.4. My dealer has informed me that since i got the naviagtion i need to order a cd changer. I think its kinda crazy that a 60000 plus car has no cd player standard, anyhow I wanted to find out if the back trunk is the only location where i can mount it ? Is is possible to mount changer in the center armrest or the glove box.

Thanks

Hi, welcome to the forum and congrats on the order!
Unfortunately, when you order the DVD Navigation system on the X5, it removes the standard CD player and you have to purchase the optional 6-disc CD changer. And even more unfortunate is that the CD changer can only be placed in the trunk.
If this location is a hassle for you and you do find yourself changing CD's quite often, you can purchase additional cartridges from the dealership (for around $20 each) where you can just swap cartridges in and out of the CD changer, 6 discs at a time. Makes things a lot faster for people who are always listening to multiple CD's.

Or you could buy an aftermarket MP3 CD changer like the Alpine CHA-S634, for about the same price (with adapters) as the BMW OEM ones, convert all your favorite commercial CDs to MP3s, burn these along with all your downloaded MP3s, and have hundreds of songs in each 6-CD cartridge. [headbang]
