Over the last two months a series of mysterious afflictions have plagued my car.
In date order I have listed what has occured. Has anyone else experienced this?

[1] When I put on the cruise control, the airbag light when on and the the cruise quit.
[2] Next the clock & radio went on sometimes and other times it was dead.
[3] The thermometer started to have wacky readings and finally stuck at -40 degrees.
[4] The computer on the stalk which usually will shuttle between mpg, mph etc. stopped working and would only show the -40 degrees, but then the next day it would work just fine.

the story gets wackier:

[5] The steering wheel moves up and down on its own. The motor just engages and the wheel will move up while I am driving and then get tired I guess and move down. Sometimes it just moves up and down continously.
[6] Yesterday the interior light would just come on. I would turn it off and it would turn on again.

Believe me I am not making this up. My car is a 98 528i. I am scheduled for a service appointment next week and I an anxious to find out what is wrong. p.s. the heater for the steering wheel does not work either. But that is another story.

Went to the dealer.
A day later after much other work was done to the car for routine maintaince they said they could not "reproduce the electrical oddities" that were going on.

Guess what? I drive it home and it happends again. Now even worse as the windows and sun roof refuse to operate and the wipers mis-behave as well.

Finally the CA sees the problem. Hands me a new bimmer to drive for a while and is now having a go at finding the problem.

Very wierd indeed.

I think he is going to exercise the demons. Did you have a hyudai that you abused before? Maybe it is the spirit of a car you had before. or maybe it is

I got a nice 325ix. Fun car but after 3 days I missed my 5.
When I left the dealership I told them that the problem must have something to do with the igniitioin switch because sometimes I start the car and it is ok and sometimes I start it and it is not. So for my feeble mind it means starter. The SA and mechanic deem it necessary to tear down the wiring and trace the circuits. 3 days later they find out that it is the ignition switch.
Oh now it works. The horn works, the lights work, steering wheel does not go up and down, the airbag lights do not go on, the windows work, the cruise works etc etc. Now I am a happy camper back with my 5. Not sure I would switch to a 3 series but they are fun.
