Hi Ya'll. Yes I'm from the south. I desparately need some help with my 1998 Z-3 1.9. OVERHEATING. I recently had cancer, had to take an early reduced retirement due to abolishment of position, had a 100 year old tree fall on my house making my roof leak like a sieve and now this. My Z-3 is overheating. This started last year. My A/C wasn't working. My husband took it to the local BMW dealer and they fixed it. A few weeks later while enroute to a job site and using my A/C my Z-3 began to overheat. I was able to pull into a fast food lot and call my husband. I left it there and went on to my job site via another employee. My husband met me later and drove the car home. He stopped and added water periodically. He ran some tests and determined that the fan was not working properly. He replaced the fan and the thermostat. Because I am now retired I don't drive it that often. I recently drove it and was required to stop at a RR crossing for a short extended period of time. It did start to run hot. Fortunately as I began to drive the temperature did come down. It appears AS IF THE FAN IS NOT WORKING AGAIN. I don't have the money to take it to the dealer again and this is my only form of transportaion. Can someone offer any suggestions on what is causing the problem? All suggestions are welcomed. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

You have two fans, one on the water pump and an electric that should run when the AC is on or the engine temp exceeds a set temp. I assume you are saying the electric one is not working at all? Does she overheat only with the AC on? Have you checked your thermostat and when was the last time the coolant was replaced? Is the water pump functioning properly, when the car is cool can you wiggle the fan blade?

there is a "bleeder" on the radiator that allows air to escape and a bit more coolant in. if you don't bleed the system it'll overheat.
