I may need to replace the engine in my 97 Z3. Thinking of going with a used engine. Is a M44 out of a Z3 the only engine that will set in or would an engine out of a 318i work. Just curious. By the way, does anyone know of any respectable used parts dealers around the country. I've tried to deal with one that was real shady. Luckily, I checked him out with the BBB just before I paid him and found he was very dishonest. Thanks anyway.

get ready for a little bit bigger job than you might think! take a look under the hood of a car with the proposed engine in it before you get too far ahead of yourself, radiator hose outlets are on different sides for different engines, all kinds of things. even the same model/engine has major changes during the production run, my Z3 1.9 has the battery under the hood and a fan mounted on the water pump. i understand most have the battery in the trunk and an electric fan? the electronics alone would be enough to scare me off, but some day i might have my 351 Cleveland in my Z3?

It has been done, I never said it was going to be easy. Only the 4 cylinders have the battery under the hood. I would like to have had a chance to put that motor in my e30 318is...

i'd have to agree, that's what i did. so far so good, no problems. excellent kit, very complete. i also did Shawn Fogg's check valve upgrade and Fogged air box mod. the Remus exhaust is a little better than the Murray riding mower diaper filling sound stock crap.
