My car was in a major accident in which the entire rear end trunk, trunk lid, bumper, quarter panels, muffler smashed, etc. The damage stoped short of the axle. 10k worth of damage.
Question: After all the work was completed, the car died on the way home. The BMW dealer stated the following were not related to the accident.

The Camshaft Sensor went out, the ABS/Traction Sensor went out, the CD-Player will not accept the code. I am trying to understand logically how they could not be related to the accident.

I would argue with my insurance company, not the dealership and tell them that all worked fine before the accident, therefore they must be related. Do not accept "no" for an answer, as they are required to put your car back in the same condition as before the accident. What year is your Z. There was a camshaft position sensor recall or campaign as I recall. Check "Alldata.com". Do not accept the shoddy work!

Thanks, I have a long list of conversations with the insurance company, and they are investigating the case. They have had my car for 2-months and I am getting impatient to say the least....

The Z is a 1999 2.8

I am sure that all the sensor errors are related to the accident. Is the Cam Sensor located on the exhaust system? Are the ABS sensore located on the back wheels?

Cam sensor - I agree with Big Daddy, I think there was a recall/issue with it
ABS Sensor - there is one on each wheel, it could EASILY be due to the accident. Some electronic components can be damaged internal by impact shock, even if they appear to be undamaged.
CD Code - If the battery was disconnected at the accident scene (which is sometimes done to prevent electrical fires) or at the dealership, then it's still related to the accident. The dealer can get a reset code for the CD player.

I don't really understand while the dealer would fight this - they can tell the insurance company it was related to the accident and it would be covered?!!?!?!?!!!??
