I'm new to the board and want to know if this thread was ever discused?

I recently purchased an 02 z3 roadster and have an annoying cabin noise at high speeds. This noise comes from where the top is pulled down by hand. Is this common with all roadsters?

Aso, when I pull down a little on the cover handle while driving, the noise goes away.

Any and all comments welcomed.

I think your right. Guess I'll check with dealer to evaluate further. I did check the weather strips and they look fine. Thought maybe this was a common problem.

Thanks

the weatherstripping is a common problem, but it gives you an intermittant buzzing sound at high speeds. Doesn't sound like what you're describing, especially since you said you can pull down on the top to make it stop. It's got to be loose clamps.

Glad to hear I'm not going completely nuts. I recently had my coupe's windshield replaced and the weatherstripping they used (as recommended by BMW) was thinner than the OE rubber moulding. This left a large gap at the top corners of the windshield, and at speeds greater than 85mph I get an intermittent squeeking sound. I've been completely perplexed by this sound because, though I suspected the ill-fitting weather stripping, it sounds almost like metal on metal rubbing or creeking. Of course, if that was the case it would likely happen at speeds below 85mph, and since it doesn't, I've been totally lost!

I think I'll head back to the glass place today to demand they put in a new weather stripping with new found confidence that their poor work is, indeed, the problem.
