Z3 Motor for 1987 E30 ??

Does anyone know if a 1997 Z3 twin cam motor with auto transmission will fit into a 1989 E30 (318i M40auto) without to much modification??

Yes.
You will need exstensive modifications to do it.
Not worth the trouble in my opinion.
Swap for a m50 or s50/s52 instead. Much easier.
