Hi, I'm looking for a used Z3 or Z4. Any pros or cons on either car I should know about? I've already test driven a couple of Z3's but not the Z4. Thanks for any input you may have. Midtownkoi

Z3's are pretty much a girls car.

The bottom line a Z3 will cost you less because they are older and expect to spend about $30-$40 on a used Z4.

I think the whole thing about "that's a girl's car" is really goofy. I have seen this topic on several boards over the past few years, and it seems to be a regional thing. For example, in Florida they might think a Toyota MR2 is a girl's car, but in the midwest they say they have never even seen a girl driving an MR2?!?!?!

The only car I classify as a girl's car is the VW Bug with a Daisy on the dashboard.

When you are looking at Z3s have the rear subframe mounts and body looked at for any signs of cracking. This is not a common problem on Z3s but it is known to occur if the car has been driven hard or raced.

If you are looking at a non-BMW dealership purchase, take it to a BMW dealer for a presale inspection. I did this when I bought the 325i. They charged me around $100 and gave me a written report. In my case, the independent dealer was completely honest - what he told me about the car was EXACTLY what the dealer reported.

The Z4 will have a stiffer ride and more precise handling than the Z3. That is, unless the Z3 is a tricked out ///M Roadster like Big Daddy's!!!

I like the Z4 a lot more rather than the Z3. The Z3 is just too past generation for me, the car just kinda lost its appeal that it has, while the Z4 looks more like a big mans car, with a short boot and a huge bonnet in front of you....

I used to own a Jag E-type (XKE) and that was supposed to be a chick's car, my wife had an RX-7...that was a chick's car.

...and who was the female model driving the Ferrari 308 in Lampoon's "Vacation"...I think this girl thing is getting too much.

good news is that I haven't seen a girl drive an Abrahm's M-1 tank...yet! Guys, this might be our last hold-out!

Hi, I picked up a 2002 Z3 about a week ago. The Z4's were out of my price range, and I was really impressed with the Z3's handling. Now if the weather would only cooperate, I could put the top down!! Supposed to get up to 2" of snow tonight. I hate winter!! Midtownkoi
PS I'll post a couple of pictures when I figure out how to do it.

Just make sure you get the rear subframe mounts checked out (might need the reinforcements), and keep your eye open for Local meets (in PA, NY, and NJ). Lots of cool and good people to meet up with.
