Fog Lights?

My cabrio didn't come with factory fogs, but I would like to put them in using a facory switch (which I have in a parts bin somewhere). Would my car be prewired for the lights (wire from the switch on the dash, to the fuse box and wires for both lights somewhere under the body/bumper) or would I have to have the whole thing wired up?

I'm not quite sure.
In your "finally took some pics" thread, it looks like you will also have to pull the gauges out aswell as there is supposed to be a light down the bottom (next to the rear fog light) that illuminates when you switch the front fogs on.
check in you fuse box, if there are two metal contacts in the spot where the fuse for the front fogs need to be you may be lucky!

Sorry, but you know what I'm like at explaining stuff....[rolleyes]

yeah, that's a good point about the contacts in the fuse box. I'll check that out in the morning. I just checked my old clusters, and one of them has a fog "light". I pulled it apart and it's really easy to change it up. Hopefully I'm lucky. What exactly do you mean by rear fog light?

I dunno (here I go explaining stuff again [rolleyes]) Its sort of like the "second stage rear tail lights" If you have it (like my bimmer) its a orange light that illuminates next to the "front" fog lights gauge cluster light.
Am I making any sense? lol[8)]

My 733 had rear fogs, it is an extra lamp in the tail lamp clusters that burns brighter than the brake lamps. It is for people coming up behind you, they see the bight lamp and hopefully do not run into you!

On both of my f/l e30's without fogs all teh wiring was there - just plug in, add a fuse and a bulb in the cluster and go for it. But both of those cars were Japanese assembled. It may be different for UK, SA, or German-assembled cars.

I see, makes sense, but my car doesn't have those (rear fogs).
I dug around under the dash to find the fog light wiring, and found the plug taped to part of the main harness. Checked under the hood and found both wires to plug the lights into, hooked up the swith from my parts bin, put fuses into the box, and I'll go to bmw tomorrow to order the fog lights. I still need to put a bulb in the dash though, but I'm in no hurry to do that. I also replaced the burnt out bulb that lights the paned over the headlight/fog switches while I was in there.
Had some fun with my GF's car too. It came in handy to see what the wires looked like, and I switched my E34 glove box latch on my E30 for hers, yanked out her ugly steering wheel and put in an M-Technik one I had in my closet. Fair trade I think.

okay, I always wondered what the extra bulb spots were for. The only BMW I have seen or driven that had the extra switch was a E30 325ix touring that was imported from Germany... I pushed the button to see what it did, but obviously I never noticed anything different. As far as the switch goes, the only switches we have over here beside the headlight switch is a covered switch hole (for vehicles w/o fog lights like mine), or a big rectangular fog switch which mine now has.

Mad skills!
I want those (rear fogs)... I also want headlight washers/wipers, and power headlight adjusters... can't find them arond here though. Ordered some fogs, should be here tomorrow... install to be done on wednesday if all the hardware comes with the lights (I couldn't be so lucky).
