I shorted the ash trays inbuilt light, and now all my dash lights, including my outside parking lights are dead... i checked all my fuses in the engine bay and they are fine, which relay am i going to have to replace? and is the the relay an always on, or always off type relay?

Thanks in advance.

dash lights?

Did you ever figure out what the short did to make the dash lights quit working? I just shorted the wire to lighted shift knob on my M and I am having the same problem. Fuses are all good but no dash lights now. Does anyone know what realy to look for or what to do here?

I so sorry i didn't finish this thread...
The problem was that i over looked an old style fuse (one that is not clear to see through - last original fuse)
I replaced him and the lights worked fine, there are separate fuses for the left and right marker lights, headlights, and high beam...
Sorry if thats not your problem, make sure you have power to the fust block for starters...
I gotta go to work Peace!

when you pull the switch does the outside lights come on? ie; all parker lights?
if they do, try turning the light switch knob full way counterclockwise and clockwise.

I did this once also and had to ground my rear ashtray light instead of the light. I think the relay burned or reversed polarity or something. Any way it all worked after except the rheostat. (dimmer switch) Good Luck

Never heard of a solid light circuit reversing polarity, that is most unusual[scratch]
