Hey guys, just registered after browsing this board.

Anyways, I own a 525i..and I drive a lot. I just want some opinions as to what I should do regarding service and any idea of how much BMW service will cost once I go over 100k??

Basics:
- 2005 525i (bot at end of 2004)
- Premium package...not that it matters
- I drive a LOT...just passed 60k miles
- I did purchase an extended service warranty back when I got the car.. 6 yrs/100k...so I don't have to worry for a little longer.

What should I do...I still owe roughly $10k for the car....should I try to sell it to carmax for say $22k (that's what blue book says so I assume I can get close to it) and purchase a Toyota FJ (I like that car, plus cheaper service cost).

I commute about 80-100 miles 5 days a wk...probably about 20-25k miles a yr.

I'm just afraid of how much service/maintenance will cost once it passes the 100k marker....does anyone have a ball park figure??

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

If the car is properly cared for now it will be no different at 100k than it is today. Unless of course something big breaks. I have had several BMW's that went well over the 100k mark with little or no trouble. If you want a warranty because you drive so much buy a Chrysler with it's new 100k mile warranty to the original owner and drive it's wheels off.

Thanks for the response.

I have never met a person who owned a Bimmer pass 100k miles...glad you mentioned you've never had issues.

I'm just afraid the car will become a major issue. But I love it....so you response helps a lot.

I actually had a 84 733i that went well over 250k before I sold her. She had a few issues particular to that series. The transmission went out near 200k, but they had issues with the clutch packs from the factory. I also had a 91 318is that I sold (wish I had not) at 165k that had no issues other than the profile gasket, specific to that M42 motor, that was repaired under warranty.

My 2003 530i needed a new throttle body at just over 100k miles which was a several hundred dollar repair. After that it was just routine maintenace until
215k miles when I needed another new thottle body and wiring harness. The parts were $1200 and the labor was another $1200. I also replaced all of the struts at 190k miles which made the car feel like new again. I would recommend replacing them sooner - 150k miles would be good. Sell the car when you get tired of it. You'll have a hard time wearing it out.
