I purchased recently an '89 E30. I am having the timing belt and tensioner, the thermostat, the water pump, and all drive belts replaced this week. I will put BMW antifreeze with a 50/50 mix in the car. What other preventive maintenance would you recommend? The car is in good condition with 101K.

Thanks! New to BMW! I appreciate your help.

Inspect engine and tranny mounts as almost every e30 I have owned needed to have at least one replaced as they had been in the car since new and rubber doesn't usually last 15yrs+ too well. Also check shocks and other rubber bushes. I'm not saying you have to replace them all unless you want to, but you should know if they are any good and replace any that are past it.

Well, that pretty much covers it... other than... while you're flushing the coolant, replace all water hoses, and try to replace all vacuum hoses. The vacuum hoses very rarely get changed and if they crack and cause vacuum leaks can make troubleshooting engine problems very misleading. Coolant hoses rot out from the inside and can leave you screwed on the side of the road.

lol,
Just too good [thumb]
In a perfect world all this stuff would get done as soon as you get your e30. I still have some crappy "original" coolant hoses that are rat shit on my bimmer that need replacing [V]
Same with me, old coolant and vacuum hoses, but whatever! [:I]

Good work guys... combined, we know all about E30's![:)]
