I agree.

Plus I think the stuff you find on ebay are nothing but resistors that fool the computer to letting in more air. However the computer will most certainly adapt and make the adjustments accordingly.

If it is not name brand I would avoid it. Look at Dinan, Conforti, Bav Auto, and others. Due to the age of your car they may be hard to find, but I agree stay away from the no-named ones on eBay.

Dinan Is what your after if you want a good honest power chip for the e30's ecu, although they are much more expensive than the ebay chips, Dinan is far better "Bang for buck" imo, and is one of the cheapest more noticeable upgrades for your e30. http://www.dinancars.com/Series.asp?Series=14&Chassis=12

I have Dinan chips in both my cars right now, and I've also had a Turner Motorsport chip in my old E30 325e's. Turner's are tuned by Jim Conforti and go for $199.oo for +15bhp.
Turner MS:

UUC Motorwerks: (same thing, +15bhp Jim Conforti chips, maybe a better price?)

While you're checking out UUC, check out their short shift kit, and clutch stop. A great setup! Those will make your car even quicker combined with the chip. Stay away from Ebay chips.

I disagree,
I bought one of the cheap chips off Ebay (like $40) and I noticed huge improvements especially over the 3k range. My friend has the exact same car with the Dinan Chip and I have noticed no difference between the two. Unless you have money to waste go with the Name brand one, but If you are a student like i am, get one off ebay.

But lets say he uses a chip from eBay and fries his ECU, who replaces the ECU, oh yes him! Should you have a problem with a name brand you have a valid warranty and someone to go after in the event of a problem. I would like to see two identical cars one with Dinan and one with eBAy chip on the dyno, I can bet you would be wrong!

No difference between two cars, both chipped means absolutely nothing at all.

I'll sell you my old stock chips on ebay. Look under "BMW HOT CHIP +25bhp!! E30 325i, 325is, M3, 318is, 318i, 325e" I'll send you my old stock chip for your E30, but itwill be from my E34 525i with the M50. You won't know until you fire the car up and your computer is fried. OR I'll send you the one from my 318i cabrio, OR the one from my old 325e. Who knows, they all look the same. $40 turns into $500 for your new ECU, and then maybe if you have some cash left over, you can pay $200 for a proper chip.

Save yourself the worries and spend the money. $200 is squat.

Beware of the chips you buy on ebay. A lot of them tend to make your engine run lean or rich.

If you are a mechanice, then maybe the forum in my signature, which deals exclusively with chiptuning and how the "chips" are made is something for you to look at.
