Just got the car. Looks like the last owner 'manualized' the top. The power boot still works so that the locks engage, but the top needs to be moved manually. No resistance so it seems that this was a concious decision.

I've scanned the posts on this and it appears that going back to a power top might be more trouble than it's worth.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Nice car! You're going to love it!
I've got a manual top, and I think I'd rather have that than a power top. (Have you seen how much it costs for new parts for power tops?!) The only real advantage for a power top is that you can put the top up at a stoplight. It's probabaly more trouble than it's worth though.
Stick with manual!

Your vert looks great!
Are those BBS rm's? they look the sex, Not sure on your power top issue, prob best to do what scotty said, leave it manual - less to go wrong IMO.
Peace.

Thanks for the advice - much appreciated.

OEM as far as I know. They look better in the pics than up close. Fairly corroded. Not sure that its worth rechroming - I might be better off getting new. I like the weave look though. New would also allow me to go to 15s.

Hey - Earlier today I heard a crazy clunk turning left at low speed. Sounded like a bowling ball in the trunk. They later I heard a nasty grinding on a left hand sweeper from the right rear. I was about 1 mile from home so I slowed her down and limped it home. The grinding went away when I slowed, but the RR wheel was hot to the touch - considerably hotter than the other 3 wheels. Sound like a bearing? Do these cars have a history of bearing problems.

Possibly a stuck handbrake shoe, pull the wheel off, pull the calliper out the way, attempt to remove the disk and inspect the handbrake assembly.

I've had my parking brake junk break on me before... just took it appart and took all the broken stuff out. (Actually, that was my first BMW problem I ever had)
My cabrio also came with those basketweaves, but were not included when I actually bought it as I wanted to pay less for the car than was being asked. Kinda wish I had them though.

Finally had the car worked over. Busted shock mount in rear, control arm bushing gone, and as you both predicted, parking break was a pile of rubble. All fixed and she runs like the wind now. Thanks for the help.
