oohhhh!! Sh!t, for a minute there I thought I had outsmarted someone. Who tunes Cadillacs!
Mallett tunes Caddies, as well as Vettes.

http://www.autoweek.com/article.cms?articleId=100217

Here is just an excerpt from that article:

For those who need even more, Mallett offers a range of upgrades, including 6.1-liter and 7.0-liter V8 setups (515 and 580 hp, respectively) with billet cranks, rods and forged pistons. Still not enough? Building on those engines, Mallett adds turbos that push output to 615 hp for the 6.1-liter engine and up to 750 hp for the 7.0-liter. If you're looking at those options, be ready to add another $30,000 to your check made out to Mallett.

Other options include Mallett/Penske nonadjustable or double-adjustable custom shock absorbers, coilover suspension setups, competition brakes (with 14-inch front rotors), one- or three-piece forged aluminum wheels, performance tires, performance exhaust systems and body mods (front splitter, fender flares, custom hood and decklid, spoiler).

We've heard reports out of Germany that Cadillac performance engineers are running the 'Ring, readying their own CTS-V "Plus," a supercharged 480-hp car aimed squarely at the next-generation 500-hp M5 due next year as an '06 model. But for those who want a domestic M5-tamer today, the Mallett CTS-V package is available and can be ordered through Mallett (mallettcars.com) or through select Cadillac dealers nationwide.

Yeah, it will cut into your lunch money, but it will have you grinning like a school kid in no time.

I thought someone might respond with that. I am well aware of the CTS-V. I am talking about something that is not out yet. Cadillac is working with one of the tuners on the development of a 500-600 hp. CTS 'Super-V'.
CTS is not the same sedan as the RS6, E55, and M5 though. The CTS is a 3-Series competitor. If Cadillac wants to compete with the E55, RS6, and M5, they should make a souped up version of that new STS sedan.

You guys see that new STS commercial lately? They show it "dancing" with a bunch of E classes and 5-Series. Seems like Cadillac is pretty serious, but I have a feeling that the STS will be cool for about 5 seconds, much like the XLR and CTS. Cadillac's design is bold and unique, but has too much of a "machine" look to it.

Cadillac (GM) is trying to promote their cars as if they are high performace machines. They sure have come a long way and are not your grandpa's Cadillac anymore. But I dont think they are anyway near to BMW's driving dynamics. The hype will dwindle down and later they will go the way of the Catera. Anybody remember that flop.

"Displacing five liters--the same as the last-generation M5's V-8--this high-revving engine delivers a breathtaking 500 horsepower at 7750 rpm and 409 pound-feet of torque at 6100 rpm and is mated to a super-quick seven-speed sequential-manual transmission. The redline is an incredible 8250 rpm, because BMW chose to develop an engine with high revs--like a race car's--rather than increasing displacement, which adds weight and takes up more underhood space. Unlike Mercedes with its E55 AMG, BMW also eschewed a supercharger, which it felt did not meet the characteristics of an M product."

This is per automobile magazine. 409lbs-ft? Who in the world has the right numbers? [?|]

actually i think the CTS in every way is a 5 series competitor, except for pricing. the car is too big to be in league w/ 3ers and G35s. i suppose they'll drop a super charged vette engine or something to compete in the hp war.. if they so elect to. but first the car needs a serious face lift.

if caddys are going to compete w/ big boys w/ STS, they need to get rid of the fwd set up. even w/ 300 horses coming form that nice engine, the STS felt slow prolly due to civility, and the torque steer sucked. i don't miss that car all too much.. also isn't the STS sort of slotted btw the 5 and the 7 in size?

The M5 will simply dominate and there will always be people who want to HATE. (hey that rhymes) Germans say it best "Mercedes ist an auto fur alte leute" (MB is a car for OLD People) Young people don't even want to get into an E55 do to the stigma that follows MB here in Germany. Germany's younger people want the Bimmers and Audi's. I live here.........I know.

The new STS is offered in RWD or AWD. I test drove a CTS and it's a really nice car. It doesn't have the road "feel" like a BMW, but it's a very good handler and had decent acceleration (in the 6 spd). In size it is definitely more like a 5 series. I'm along with Brahtw8 - I am really glad other manufacturers are stepping up. It's more competition for BMW and I love the fact that I actually have a choice when I purchase a car. No one has been able to compete with BMW.

Just a few thoughts....I've owned a few BMWs and now own a nice stock 2000 540i with the sport pack. Great car.

Horsepower is a function of torque at a particular RPM - HP=(torque X RPM) / 5252. SO...yes the ultra high RPM and low torque is the reason for the discrepancy between the two types of motors from Mercedes and BMW.

But...having said that there's an old drag racing adage..."there's no substitute for cubic inches..." or CC's or Liters or whatever you want to measure the motor with!

There's nothing like a BBC like my boat's 502 ci (8.3L) breathing out 4" pipes thru the transom and screeeeaaammming along at full throttle.

As to Caddie-crap...wouldn't own the things...ugly and will fall apart long before my 540i will be retired from my stable.

BTW...my second post here so if I stepped on any toes...I appologize profusely.

brahtw8 and abdoman, thanks for letting me know.

i guess they do listen! i liked the caddy overall, but it could've been so much more. hopefully they'll get it right w/ the next gen.

as for high torque on the MB, i was just thinking, how much of that actually make it to the pavement? i mean w/ the TC kicking in, you are bound to lose some of it right? if you turn it off, there go yer fat tires in a month..

NO WAY MAN. The CTS is the 3-Series competitor I GUARANTEE you. And the STS is a 5-Series Competitor, that's why they have the commercial like that with the 5-Series and E500.

Hey Tool Fan do you still have the M5 video that was talked about in a previous thread? My hotmail account has been upgraded to 250 MB now so i can accept it...

In reference to this thread i have to say that i would be totally surprised if the E55 is able to transmit all that torque to the road. The CL 65 (what an abomination) is a case in point: all that torque is really only effective at high speed when wheelspin is (presumably) no longer a problem. By this stage, power takes over anyway so i reckon the new M5 would kill the E55 from, say, 100kmh - 160 kmh etc. In-gear acceleration figures should tell a very good story for the M5... Pity it's not the M5 we used to know. [bigcry]
