I don't have the production numbers handy, but I think there were less than 3000 M Coupes in the US and less than 6000 worldwide.

M coupes are depreciating like almost everything else. You can get a decent one for $25k all day.
I should have said long term appreciation. I believe that they are dropping now, but in general, high end, unique cars with low production runs generally increase in value over the 10 - 30 year period. I like to watch the Classic/Antique Auctions that are on Speed and other cable channels ocasionally. Some production cars from the 60s like Camaro RS, Mustang GT500, Stingrays, etc. sell for 10x to 30x what they cost new. I think the M Coupe will ultimately be there.

I would expect the same for your NSX?

...as for resale value of a car.
1. BMW owners don't care about resale value. They love their BMW's. The ONLY reason they would worry about resale value is so they could buy a better BMW.
2. Hondas have better resale values because more people can afford them.
3. BMW's depreciate more because they cost more. If you think of it on a percentage basis, though, the value of the car versus the orignal price, I wouldn't be surprised if BMW's and Hondas were neck and neck.

....as for aftermarket upgrades hurting your engine longevity (I got that word from Brahtw8), it depends on the upgrade and how the car is driven afterwards. There is no definite answer. Give us specifics, and we might be able to give a specific answer back. [:D]

I certainly hope so. Right now the 91-94 NSXes are holding steady, which means they are depreciating at a rate equal to inflation.

As long as people continue to appreciate cars like the M Coupe and NSX, they will never drop too low. With the NSX, around $25k seems to be the bottom, (not counting high mileage and imperfect title) as demand would exceed supply at a price below $25k.

I don't think the M Coupe is there yet, which is not surprising given that its depreciation slows as the car ages and it is relatively new. In today's dollars, I would expect $20k is the bottom at which demand would drive the price up. Most seem to be $25-27k cars, as BMW owners tend to drive their cars and accumulate mileage (typically 40-60k on a 99).

It is hard to predict. The M Coupe is revered as a driver's car, but many people (not me) hate the styling.

I'd rather have the one with the popup headlights

That seems to be the general consensus. I like the rear end treatment of the new ones, but I don't like the fixed lights and I don't like the new front spoiler/vent.

The ultimate (US) NSX would be a 97-01 coupe. I would say an NSX Zanardi, but I want a color other than red and it is sacrilege to paint an NSX a different color.

I haven't heard of that being a significant problem (indeed, I have never heard of it happening at all) with an NSX. What holds true for most cars with pop up headlights probably does not hold true with the NSX. Just about everything on that car is built to the highest standard. The headlight lenses are glass, not plastic, for example.

Do those come with Xenons? LED tailights?
Xenons have been available on the NSX since 2000 or 2001. The fixed headlights came in 2002, and those are all Xenons AFAIK.

I don't think it has LED tailights, but the 2002-on may.

Most cars with pop-up headlights are controlled with vacuum tubes. Usually when the lights fail to open is due to an old dried up tube, holes in the tubes, or something along those lines. I is usually quick fix that most never take to time to remedy, therefore driving around with one open and one shut. Most cars that have those types of headlights usually never have any problems with them.

//M,.. that was sarcastic if you didn't notice [hihi].
Push, with the context of this whole thread (between Civic and yourself) and you're prior posts, it is very hard to tell that it was suppose to taken in a sarcastic tone. Even still, I don't think it was appropriate or called for in any context.

This thread is going to far and I'm too lazy to read all of the posts, all I have to say is the bottom line is: BMW is 1 of the 2 greatest car companies out there.
