Anthracite trim or not?

Yeah, I'm going back with pictures on Thursday. I doubt they'll do anything about the trim, but like I said, it's not bad. Maybe I can get some BMW shirts, hats, and other stuff. Who knows? We'll see what they say on Thursday.

Usher, If your dealer says that you have Antracite trim....there has got to be someone that you could report that to. That is is CLEARLY the POPLAR Dark Wood. I have the Antracite as you have seen. A salesperson for BMW should be trained well enough to know the difference. I mean they are trained enought to take your 50,000+ dollars. I am in Germany and I WILL try to find a BMW agent over here that you could submitt a complaint to and have some action taken on your behalf. That is some BS and you have all the right in the world to be PISSED. I would also want what I paid for...not someone elses mistake.
Let me know if you want me to track an agent down with a contact for ya.

I'm scared

I ordered black 530 with anthracite trim as well through ED. I was looking at the Owner's Circle BMW site and it said my order would have sycamore trim. I freaked out and contacted my dealer. He confirmed that he ordered anthracite maple trim, which is code 0435. He faxed the confirmation to me, which just had the codes. He said that the BMW website is known to have errors.

I emailed bmwusa with my production number. They emailed me back confirming anthracite maple trim.

I am so worried that I will get to Germany and see that wood in my car. I ordered premium package just to have the blackish charcoal trim.

Usher, that's clearly not the Anthracite trim.

If the dealer ordered it properly as you alluded to earlier, it should be easy to get them on your side since it wasn't their fault. From there, I'd be amazed if there isn't a way for this to be escalated to a regional rep or something that could authorize a wood swap on the car. How hard could that be?

Now, if the dealer screwed up the order, you could still try to go above their heads to BMWNA and see if they'll help but unless you have some good proof that you ordered Anthracite, you may be SOL.

Hey, at the very least, you're already willing to live with the error so you have nothing to lose!

Again, my best advice is to not alienate the dealer if they placed the order properly. A sales rep who can't tell the difference between poplar and anthracite, while idiotic, is not anything to fight about.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble. I have my signed order and will just see what they have to say. I called my salesman today, but it was right at closing and he was not there. I'm sure I'll hear from him in the morning. If not, I'll see him when I get to the dealership anyway. When I picked it up, he clearly told me this was exactly what I ordered. Either he doesn't know what Anthracite is or he blatantly lied hoping I wouldn't find out. I doubt the latter is the case.

I doubt he lied as well. As I said, he may not have known the difference and simply told you that what you got was what he ordered. That's why it's not worth fighting the dealer at this point. Since the factory made the mistake, nobody will "get in trouble" by you asking for a remedy to this problem.

I'd ask the dealer to have their regional field rep look at your car the next time he/she's in the area. Once he establishes the order was placed properly, how could he not authorize a retrofit with the wood you want? It's not like you're asking them to take the car back because the it is the wrong body color or something -- it's a simple wood trim swap. How hard could that be??

Hey Rudy, funny enough that you should say that....I have the Antracite in mine and wanted to get the anthracite on the door handles as well but the dealership in Germany said that this stuff (the Anthracite) is not an aftermarket option so I was pretty much SOL. They do have the Poplar as an aftermarket option but not the other. So what I am getting at is if you guys can find a dealership in the states that CAN get the Antracite aftermarket...PLEASE get me a number or address so I can get the door handle pieces.
Thanx

The door handle trim may be a different story though since you don't currently have wood on the door handles.

As far as usher's problem, aftermarket availability or not, if the factory screwed up and they want to fix it, they'll find some wood to replace his current poplar wood.

Just got back from the dealer. In fact, they DID order the Anthracite Maple Trim. Salesman told me that 3 cars came with the wrong trim (2 x 5-series and an X-5) and that no one at the dealership noticed it because they all looked similar to one another. He got calls about all 3 this week (including mine) and the BMW rep was down in Gainesville yesterday and was going to look into the matter. He looked to be under severe pressure and seemed extremely worried. Supposedly one of the people waited 2 extra months to get the options he wanted and it still came in wrong. They have still never seen the Anthracite Maple other than what's in the catalogue.

Salesman said that if an option isn't available, they receive an e-mail saying so and to inform the buyer. They said they never got one, and that in the final notice from Germany, the paperwork stated Anthracite Maple.

So now it's a wait to see what's gonna happen once the rep does whatever it is he / she has to do.

As for Jamilaz, I would stay on top of it, because having Sycamore on your order doesn't look good to me. I would keep on calling and keep logs of all calls and correspondence to make it easier on yourself once you do receive your car, if there's a mistake.

Usher, that sounds like good news.

I'm betting the BMW rep will make things right for all three customers. As I said earlier, if the factory screwed up, they need to fix it. Nobody at the dealership made any mistakes or lied to you so there's nobody that'll get "in trouble" etc.

Good luck!

[?|] It didn't go quite so well. I finally got a callback from my dealer and this is what they told me. "Alex, this is All Pro Imports. Regarding the trim on your car, we have done a review and you got the beautiful Poplar Wood Trim, and that's what you WILL have. Sometimes woods aren't available or mistakes are made by the factory. Hopefully you enjoy the car, and the beautiful poplar wood trim. I hope that this will not stop you from enjoying your beautiful 530i."

I don't know what to make of this. Can I hear some suggestions as to what I should do next? I'm very inexperienced in dealing with dealers, etc, but like to go into a situation with as much firepower as possible.

Take it directly to BMWNA (800/831-1117).

Sounds like you can take the dealer out of the loop. I can't imagine if a true mistake was made at the factory that they won't do something more than nothing for you!

And they wonder why some people go POSTAL. Sorry about your luck there usher. I think Rudy is right. Go around your dealer...but I would definately mention that your dealer said that you "will" enjoy the trim that you did not order. BMW's are tooooooo freakin expensive to not get or be satisfied with the product.

This amazes me. A car of this value and quality. You ordered it the way you want it. It's not like you chose one off of the lot. [:(!]

Kind of a Nazi response from your dealer: You vill take ze car mitt ze poplar trim und you vill like it, or you vill be shot.
