I NEVER SAID A VIN can be decoded to tell that stuff.
i was trying to make the point, THAT the MAIN VIN TRACKING USE was NOT for tracking options/packages, it was for tracking carfax related information. That is what most consumers care about for tracking VINS.
Quit arguing with me, and saying you aren't.

Did you even read my posts?

I'm not sure what you mean above, but manufacturers track what packages were put on the vehicle in the factory, so the VIN can tell you if it's an I or an IS.

The VIN does track factory installed options - I have purchased several used BMWs and specifically, my 328is (I no longer have) had listed sport package, HK sound, leather etc...

yeah, A VIN isn't some code sent from God to tell if you have sport seats or a 6cd changer or not.

No - I don't think you understand my point - I completely agree with you, but the VINs mean more to the manufacturer and to the buyer.
Here I was just letting a guy know that you can find out which options are on the car by using the VIN at a dealership and you go off on a tangent. I never said I wasn't arguing with you, I just said that I don't totally disagree. Frankly it's stupid to argue about this. The VIN decoder is a trivial item that the majority of the people won't use, where tracking the VIN gives the consumer much more useful information ie. carfax, factory installed options, warranty left, etc. So, if that's what you were trying to say then we're done here.

If its not a big deal, then why did you bring it up again? Don't make this forum an unfriendly place with your stubborness. We don't need people like you ruining the community of this forum, just because you want to discuss trivial, things until you are correct.

Thanks. And i know its not up to me, but please don't post any more messages in thsi thread until you know what you are talking about.

You know, I was not rude and didn't consider you to be until your last post. It's not like I'm new here. I have purchased several used BMWs and I am sure that everything I posted above is accurate.

If you really think I don't know what I'm talking about, go ahead and prove me wrong.
