BMW vs Acura

It is really a matter of personal choice. The 5 has some attributes that make it worth the extra $ for some people. The TL is an incredible value, but does have some inherent limitations owing to its FWD layout.

I am too much of a power junkie to really give a 530 much consideration, but the 545 is considerably more expensive, so much so that it really isn't a TL competitor.

I'm looking for some honest opinions here. I currently have a 330xi but will be replacing it with something a little larger. I had pretty much decided on the 545i but then I started looking at the Acura TL on the Acura website after reading some threads on this board concerning the problems with the BMW nav/satellite radio. I realize that the Acura can't compete in terms of performance but for nearly $30,000 less you can get a pretty well equipped car with pretty good perfomance. Putting any blind loyalty to BMW aside, would anyone consider getting the Acura or is the difference so great that it justifies the cost of the bimmer?
Since I had an older TL and really liked it, test drove the new 5 series and liked the ride but hate the new body style....I will comment.

"I" would take the new TL over the new 5 series, better value hands down, better looking hands down (imo).

But...

My fav 4 door is the 540 & I would personally look for a low mileage 540, if I were in the market for an awsome 4-door.

Just my 2 cents.

nicely said flashinthepan. I too really dislike the new 5 series styling and the Tl doesn't look that bad, still think the one right before this one looked a bit better but that's just me. If I was in such a dilema, I would probably go for a low milage CPO 540i, I really like the styling and it has 4.4 liters under the hood. The price will also be more comparative but then again, it won't be a "new" car. That's just my own opinion that a lot of people may disagree with but I just love the styling of the "older" (the 7 series that came right in front of the current one, e39s are pretty good looking too, e36s and e30s are awesome but something really pulls me toward the 8 series and e34s, nothing like a classy car with some balls under the hood) bimmers. Well, I won't be in that price range for a while so it's not really my business. Wish you luck with your choice and hope you are happy with either one you choose.

I came very close to buying an E39 540i over the TL, but FWD for a winter driver was the deciding factor.

It is a legitimate alternative to a 3 or 5 for most people, who don't track their cars or drive above 7/10s on the street.
I agree. FWD is not a death sentence and will suit the majority of people during regular driving.

The TL is a fine car for the money along with the likes of a G35, A4 and the rest, but if your willing to spend the money on a 545i, I think you'd be quite happy with your decision.
