Carbon Fiber Hoods

yeah, IE also sells a lighter weight hood. but it gets flimsy i guess and it uses pins. the hoods i'd make would have pins also, but they would be more stiff. I've actually acquired a vacuum pump for free and some other materials so the "first off" hood would be about 800$ all said and done. that 800$ would be the cost of making the mold and also buying all materials. this price is down about 300$ from what i originally expected. I actually just purchaced a set of kosei 16X8.5's for a five lug conversion so thats where my money is being spent for the time being. When more money is in the bank, things will take off. Perhaps when my car is on stands in the garage for five lug parts, i'll make a mold for the CF parts at the same time.

As for now, carbon fiber stuff is on hold.

right after posting my previous message, i decided that maybe i could just hang on to my wheels that i just bought and do carbon fiber work this summer. hmmmmmm...... lets just say that you all have me thinkin again. i'll post back on this forum tomorrow night with a verdict on whether its happening soon or later.

thats only the first hood. that price includes me making the mold for the hood that i would need to make and all the first time stuff for making carbon fiber parts. an actual hood would be considerably less money.

I've finally ended my waffling, the carbon fiber project is on. my test mold is almost done and i'll make a test panel within the next couple days. i'll show you guys the process and document how the hood will be made.

drifty30, no, my 03 325i is an e46, 4dr sedan, in Steel Blue. Does this mean I'm not able to get a hood because e46 hood dimensions are probably different than e30 hoods?
