I’m having ongoing issues with Apple CarPlay in my 2022 BMW Z4 sDrive20i (G29) – using the original factory multimedia system.
Here’s what I’m dealing with:
I’ve already had a full software update performed at an official BMW service center, under warranty – but unfortunately, the issue still persists.
At this point, I suspect the problem might be related to the head unit itself.
Also, I noticed some Z4s show Waze in the digital instrument cluster – mine doesn’t, and I wonder if that’s tied to the same software/head unit version.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issues? Has anyone replaced the head unit or found a permanent fix?

- Frequent, random disconnections with CarPlay – both wireless and wired (USB).
- Music playback drops suddenly, then comes back a few seconds later.
- During phone calls, the other person hears me fine, but I can’t hear them – audio just disappears on my side.
- Similar issues happen with Android Auto, although slightly less frequently.
