well the past few weeks for the 325 have been interesting starting of with the slipping and sliding in the rain ( nothing new there) but in every gear but fifth i spin both of the rears (at 90 its no joke) now in the dry im spinning my wheels in three gears all of this is with no power on at all. [confused] very annoying as iv'e gone from sub 7 secs to 60 to around 8 or 9. So today i looked at my rear tires for a bit of a check-up. WHOOPS there virtually bald i was gonna book it in for a quick once over to see why i seem to have lost so much power. it turned out that they were so bald that the tires have been spinning with barely any feedback [?|] [?|] [?|] shoulda spotted it earlier but, hey, at least from now on there wont be so much show-boating!!!!!!!!! i have bfgoodrich potenzas on my car, they handle GREAT on dry pavement. cornering, grip response, etc is great. Throw those suckers onto anything wet and well, even if you drive over a part of the pavement that the sprinklers sprinkjled water onto, watch out, cuz its slippery sliding for me.

lol

Yeah, with an old ass car like this you have to get in the habit of checking it over all the time. Menial stuff like checking coolant and cleaning the engine bay. Doing this can help you spot little things that can quickly grow and strand you on the side of the road or cost you much $$$.

Is your timing belt up to date?

.Sorry, but playing the bullhorn for someone else is not the way it should be. especially not the way it was addressed. Wadula edited this post on 8/7/03 at 11:49 a.m.

- That was direct from Mad Mike, none of that was from me; I have nothing to do with this except that I am just forwarding the message.

wait a second....... so your tires were bald and u didn't notice? [confused]

uuuummmmmmm.... ok

sorry, but that's probably the first thing i'd check if i'm gettin ass out in 3rd
yea i know, its my own stupid mistake but in my defence the tires chirp in third in the dry any way even on newish ones with the grip. its just these past few weeks they've just disintegrated. [confused]

you can call it if you want but i don't BS on stuff like this. the m5 develops its power higher up the rev range and has 255 width tires on the rear i have 195's if you don't belive me then fine don't comment i just thought it was funny at the time so posted. Always nice when you can laugh at your own stupidity. FYI you can ignight the tires in third gear on the M5 but only if you do it properly was DSC on??? a chirp is from the torque comming in sooner on the mini beast.

and yes everything is up to date. timing belt etc were done at last inspection and like i said before the last few weeks have destroyed them and i don't know why!!!

If you really don't believe then i can video a run and show you them squeeling on the shift to third but i hope i wont have to. [burnout]

The M5 makes more power at 2000rpm than a 325 at full tilt so I still don't believe you or your explaination. The DSC was off. There are very few cars that can break the tires loose in 3rd gear in dry weather. I don't think your 325 is one of them. Sorry. I bet your clutch is slipping.

its not a burnout its a simple chirp that happens if you slam in the gear w/o lifting the throttle much so you are effectivly poping the clutch. don't tell me that 200+ ft of torque is not enough to do that......And the M5 CAN do it as can plenty of other cars. i mean i know the US cars are slower but they can't have been affected THAT much.

and if the clutch slips then that takes power AWAY from the wheels making it even more shocking surely!!???!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!? the M5 doesn't develop 190+ Hp at 2000Rpm besides its not power its torque thats needed to do that. im not saying mine develops more or equal but it has enough to do that. My dads has an E34 M5 and both gunning it round town i don't loose him upto 30Mph.

my car can lose it in 2nd anytime (shifting from 1st to 2nd).....the only time i have EVER slipped in 3rd was drifting in the middle of a really heavy rain. But in 2nd, the tires are easily gone from "chirp" to "errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"...[:)]

i dont even know why i am typing.....my car has 170 HP[thumb]

im running a slightly modded 325i cold air induction, high torque chip, full sports exhaust, and sports clutch. that pumps out 190 at the wheels at an estimate. all the rest is pretty much stock. if you do get the project going post some pics. port polish and a full engine balance and that would start to worry the big guns.

what ETA by the way?????[driving]

190 to the wheels sounds awfully high for a "slightly modded 325i" as u said... at the crank, sure... but wheels?... i dunno bout that [confused] what kinda "high torque" chip? i've never heard people talkin about stuff like that

i don't wanna make a big deal about it, but i'm pretty skeptical of 190rwhp for a 325i w/ just cai and a chip

what eta am i driving? it's just a base model eta... '87 325... divingboards, 4 doors, almost no options [:I] only mods so far is a bav chip, cd player, hardwired radar/lazer dectector... but somehow it still managed a 16.188 in the 1/4, which is pretty respectable for an almost stock eta [^]
