Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer but wish we didn't. ~ Erica Jong.
Asking that question on a BMW forum is obviously going to bring about certain responses.

I agree.

...Money is not a factor...
When this is true, and, torque and sound are the factors; then adding a 3:91 final drive and an upgraded muffler (among other upgrades) on a M3 that already does sub-five second runs to sixty should help. [burnout]

naff, ah, sorry - its english for, well, 'crap' - not very good, cheesy, wouldn't want to use it as a shopping car type thing. DONT get one!

The other guys are right, M3's sound amazing, just like a racing car - they howl ;)

Personally, I'd go with an M3 only because I like the fact that maintenance would be paid for, I could rip on my buddies, and I love the look of them; but all that is for you to decide.

Good luck; either way you go, I'm sure you'll be happy.

Isn’t this the truth. If I were to melt my rotors and brakes tonight, BMW would replace at no cost to myself. All my oil changes, brakes, rotors, windshield wiper (twice a year) replacement, and labor not to mention major Inspection I and II are covered. This is a major plus on an M-car. On top of that and they throw in complete roadside assistance. Hard to beat that...... [whip]

10 years ago: Mustang. Now: M3... [drinking] I would get a 6MT, not SMG, and leave the car totally stock.

Thanks. THat was the quote I was trying to articulate. Was driving myself nuts trying to remember who said it.

Well, I did it! I just purchased a 2004 Titanium Silver/Black M3 Coupe. It has premium/cold weather/xenons/aluminum trim/Harmon Kardon. MSRP was $54,995, but the saleswoman needs to make her quota for the month and gave me $2500 off plus a free alarm. She gave me $32,000 trade-in for my 2004 330xi with 14k miles. Not bad at all. I went to 5 different dealers over the past month and this was the abolute best deal I could find, so it pays to do your homework. I will have it on Tuesday and I hope to post some pics. Thanks for all of your input in helping me decide and I hope I love it as much as you say I will. [cheers]

If I bought the car primarily for drag racing, I'd go with the Cobra. I know two guys who own them, and they tell me for a few hundred dollars you can get the Cobra's HP over 500 which translates to high 11, low 12 quarters. Other than that, the M3 is the clear choice.
