I went by the local BMW dealer to see about picking up some touch up paint for my e30 and took a quick look at the new 5er. I have to say that I actually like it. ::Ducks:: It definitely looks better in person than in pictures. I think it looks modern and actually pretty aggressive. I would have liked to sit in it to get a better feel for what the interior is like, but I just got to peek through the window. They had four of them sitting out in the lot in front of the building with various levels of trim/options.

Has anyone else gone and looked at them? What are your thoughts?

I've seen it at a car show, its not bad looking but the interior looks cheap. I'll give it a passing or failing grade once I see the M5.[:D]

I went to BMW of Manhattan, and took a look at the new 5er, through the showroom window. from the pictures i saw i thought that the car was a lot wider.. When i saw it in person it just looked smaller.

I love it love it! Unfortunately, I can't afford it.

I sat in the interior for a while. I love the design of the interior as well. The only things I don't like about the interior are the climate control knobs. They look and feel cheap. Reminds me of a toy stove.

Other than the knobs, I think it's a fine automobile. If it weren't for the new home purchase, arrival of the baby, the wife's monthly Barneys shoe splurge, and my addiction to grooming products, I'd own one.

I saw a 545i the other day on the interstate as I was driving home from school. Noticed it in the rear view mirror and watched it intently as it gained on me. I have to say it looked pretty mean coming up behind me. I oogled at it as the guy passed me. I really like it. I think it looks pretty darn aggressive - I'd buy one!

Overall, I like it. I just think it would have looked better without the little upswings at the corners of the lights-front and back. I think the back of the upcoming 6 looks better. Gonna check it out up close tomorrow.

I brought the new baby home yesterday. I can't begin to say how smooth it rides, how fantastic it corners, or how much attention it drew when I brought it home. I love it more now than I did when I put the money down. It is sweeeet! Thanks to my husband for making my greatest dream come true!

Personally, I am. The previous 5-series is an awesome car, no doubt about it. But, it's been around for quite some time now - they are everywhere. Car companies can't ride out a single design for 10 years. That's the mistake GM tends to make with their cars - a good case in point is what happened to the Camaro. If you don't periodically redesign the car, it kills the uniqueness and speciality of it. Remember back before the 1970s happened? Every year, every car was redesigned. Every model year provided a unique, often novel design. Some of the most memorably unique and universally-known cars and designs (the 1957 Chevy, the 1967 and 1969 Camaro, the 1964 and 1967 GTO, the 1970 Mustang, the 1970 Chevelle, etc, etc) were only built for ONE year! The only body panels that are shared between the 1967 and 1969 Camaro are the hood (and only on non-SS cars at that) and the trunk lid. The interiors are totally different. Hell, the entire chassis was redesigned from the ground up for 1970 - only three years after the car was introduced for 1967!! I dare say that few, if any, of the current vehicles produced on these 10 year product cycles will ever attain the classic status of the current-day classics.

Lucky you, a brand new machine!
I think it looks better the more you see it, the rear looks good, but the front could be better without those feminine eyes. Also, the car looks too high, lacks width visually.

Mr Jewels530i here. Here are my first impressions after a couple days of ownership. The car has the sport package, cold package, premium package, premium sound, cold package and a couple of other miscellaneous options. Ride is excellent despite the 18" run-flats. Handling is razor sharp but the active steering does take some adjustment time. The sport seats are comfortable and supportive and at six foot I am able to get them adjusted to my height. I do have the seat nearly all the way back though so tall folk may not find the range they need. In the back of the bus an adult can sit behind me without any lack of legroom and I would say the car can be legitimately said to carry four adults in comfort. Materials are upscale but IMO are not as luxurious as some of the competition. The i-drive was a big concern to me but once you get everything set up you seldom need to get in there and the ability to make so many adjustments is quite handy. Interior storage is at best pathetic. The trunk however is much bigger than you would think when looking at the car from the exterior. This is good because some of the stuff you might normally carry in your car will probably find its way in there. We haven't flogged it yet due to break-in requirements but in normal driving I find the power to be adequate. One thing that we didn't really take note of at the dealership was how low the car is, both in front and on the side skirts. We can barely get it into the driveway without scraping and you have to be aware of it at all times. I am not even going to touch on the styling. Interior or exterior. My wife loves it and thats good enough for me. Anyhow thats about it for first impressions.
