I rest my case about the tool. I would really not like putting two nails and some speaker wire into an electrical connector on my car. If you mess up who knows what will happen and how much it will cost to fix, more than $50.00 I bet! I do not use crescent wrenches on my oil pan bolt or other bolts either, I like having the right tool for the job. Maybe I worry too much?

It's impossible to mess up though. There are only 4 pins active in that connector - one is a power source, one of the SI reset pin, one sends voltage to the starter, and then I believe there is another active pin which is simply a ground. People have been using the two nail method since these cars were off warranty....

I agree that using the right tool for the job is extremely important, but this is simply a common sense thing. You can buy ECU's for around $50 on ebay anyways [:p]

Left to their own devices, some people could certainly screw it up, even with only 4 contacts. Maybe THAT'S what happened to the burned 330 in the other thread! [rofl]

great discussion but i still cant reset with the procedure????? why would a tool be any good if i cant do it the one way
How are you doing it? Are you positive its making contact and that you are using the right pins? If you are going by the numbers on the diagnostics connector, they can be confusing. I believe the numbers are under the pin the stand for.
