Oil change reset precedure????

i like to consider myself somewhat mechanically inclined and im pretty pretty pretty dam sure im making the right pins......i am sticking a pin connector in the number 7 slot and then sticking it in number 19 then after that i turn the igntion key to on but not start it and nothing happens. the lights just stay right where they are.....any thoughts on this?

How long do your short out the pins? I think its something like 7 seconds, but I'm not sure. I actually need to reset mine, so I'll try that today and see how it works. I don't remember hwo it was on my E30.

i kept it down for a little longer than that but nothing happened.....
