...a porsche might not be the fastest, most slickest, most cornering car...
Are you sure about that...? I mean, a 4 second and below 0-60 time is pretty fast. They also look pretty slick to me, and from what I saw on that video with the British guy and from what I've read their cornering & handling is absolutely perfect (for the new model line at least). Also, there's no doubt that they make the best brakes in the world. The thing is that unlike the Italians, the Germans give you what you pay for. If you give them $150,000 for a car, they'll build you one hell of a car. That's why Porsche is rated #1 in dependability according to JD Powers & Associates. Road & Track test-drove the Murcielago and they say that the shifter broke off TWICE; they needed to shift with a pair of pliers. Now is that really the type of quality you'd expect to find in a $280,000 car?

Just an example of how they test Porsches: http://content3.us.porsche.com/prod...ish/911_turbo_experiencePorsche_turbo_testing

dinan, i said probably because there are tons of people out there that think a porsche is not as great as for example think it is. fior different people there are different reasons and arguments that count when choosing a car. price, looks, performance, package, all that stuff. and porsche does not please all. a corvette is as powerfull and some are even more for a less price. some people are looking for exactly that.

for me, and i guess you figured that by now, porsche is religion!

Yeah...take the Boxster for example. It is not very impressive with straight-line acceleration (even the Boxter S), but it is supposed to be the greatest-handling roadster out there. It even out-handles the BMW Z4 (and BMW was trying to beat the Boxster in handling with the new Z4).

Yea I heard about some "Handing-Day" thing, no idea what it is but it's some sort of competition between many cars. The Porsche Boxter was rated as the best-handling car.

Mine is a Boxster S

I can kick-in some info on this since I've owned a Boxster S for three years....

Unless you're the queen/king of whatever, it's hard to compare a Porsche to the best-of-the-best. From my personal perspective, my Boxster is a dream come true. I've owned three different Alfa Romeos, a very old Triumph (TR-3A, still have it), and have driven various BMWs, Jaguars. etc. But The Box is the best performing car I've ever owned. All of the power I could ask for, handling from heaven, great looks, and a surprising amount of trunk space.

However, I test drove a '04 M3 with SMG yesterday and I'M SOLD. Haven't checked out the super exotics, but if given a choice between a Boxster S and an M3, I would pick the M3 on performance alone. Never mind that it seats 4.

Yeah, I love the Boxster S sooo much. But when you load it up, it becomes super expensive. I configured one with Navigation and all these other options and it was easily over $70,000 which is 911 territory. My only hesitation with a convertible/roadster is that you really have to be good-looking enough for one...I hate seeing ugly people in a drop-top.

I'm 6' even and have no problem in the Boxster. It's a little hard getting in and out; but once in the car, I can adjust the seat down enough for comfortable headroom. However, I have the seat almost all the way back, so I think the comfort zone would be no more than 6' 2", or so, depending on your driving style. Before buying the Boxster, I checked out the Honda S2000 and that car WAS too small.

I sat in a S2000 once and test-drove one. The interior is pure shit, but I thought the seats were amazingly comfortable. The seat just like....fit me perfectly without having to do any adjustments. I just wish the S2000 had a better stock stereo and climate control and crap...I know it's supposed to be a poor sports car, but it's way too bare the way it is.

i just bought a 1983 944 w/ 116k (now 119k) a little over a month ago. Its sweeet. sure it needs some work, maybe $800 to do everything that needs to be done, but the way that thing handles is amazing. Ill probably have at least one porsche for the rest of my days................
