Well its the end of Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, the biggest shopping day of the year. What is it you have to show for it?
As for me, this was my best and biggest shopping day ever. I spent more money today on electronics and stuff thain I have all year. Amazingly and a first, I was able to buy everything I was trying to get. Usualy a good year for me is getting one or two key items and maby half the rest, but this year I got every single thing. I accomplished this with great planning, experence, and 3 sets of hands (had my dad with me and a family friend).
The day actualy started yesterday, 10:00 PM I arrived at Best Buy ready to spend the night, since I woke up at 4:30 am 2 days ago and it is now 2:00 am that means I have been awake for about 46 hours strait. I was the second person there, there was a family of about 8 already there. More people showed up afterward, by midnight there was about 40 people, by 4 am there was around 200, and by 6 am (opening time) there was well over 400.
We wanted to get lots of different things, the main ones being an incredible desktop for cheep and a cheap laptop I can use when my good one is in the shop. Waiting in line was fun, everyone was having a good time telling jokes. It is an experence, I did it once before when PS2 came out (same store). One of the other items I wanted was this Dual brand Sub kit with amp. It has 2 10" subs, already inclosed in a premium vented case with plexiglass front, also comes with an 475 watt 2 channel amp made by Dual. For my car I rilly wanted something higher quality but for $100 I save a lot of money that can go elseware. In the line however I met these people who know a guy who can get great deals on car equipment, not only that buy one of the guys said he had some extra subs (some rilly high brand cant rember the name) and cabels he could give me all worth about $600. Then I just contact his friend for the amps and possibly other speakers in the car. If everything works out with that then I will return the sub kit.
This is my 3rd year that I have shopped the day after Thanksgiving so I have gotten used to how it works and know how certain stores operate. Best Buy has always been the worst store at managing crowds yet always gets the biggest. 20 min before opening they passed out vouters for the very limited products. I got the Laptop and Desktop ones, the main reason I went there. Those were the main items but I still had a huge list. All prices shown are after rebates.
15" LCD TV $300
Maxtor 7200 rpm 120 Gb hard drive $50
DVD Burner $80
DVD-R s $95
7" portable dvd player $200
DVD X Copy $20
Norton System Works and Spam and Firewall 2004 $Free
Fujifilm camera $150
8600 MX ATI Radion Video Card $70
CD Burner 52x $5
Lexmark printer $Free
Dual sub kit with amp $100
Laptop: Toshiba 2.4 ghz Celeron
256 ram 30 gb hard drive $500
Desktop: emachines 2.6 ghz Celeron
256 Ram 80 gb hard drive
mouse, keyboard, speakers
Win XP, Microsoft Works $200
I had given assignments to everyone, my friend would get the LCD TV and the portable DVD player, my dad would take care of the vouters and I would get the rest. Since I know the store so well I know where everything is and can get it quickly. You would not believe how fast I was running through the store with the cart grabbing everything. I ran over several people with my cart and grabbed some items right as someone else was reaching them. You would not believe how ill informed some of the staff is, I ask them where something is in the department they are working for and they have no idea where it is, one lady literaly acted like she had never read the ad and had no idea what was on sale. Amazingly I was able to get everything, for two items I grabbed the last one right as some one else was, oh and dont think like they were shopping casualy, everyone in the store was running around with no care for anyone else trying to get everything. I met up with my dad in line to pickup the lap top. This line was a special line for getting any of the computers they handed out vouters for. The line was extremely slow, about 15 min per person. This was due to them having to set up computers and install upgrades right there. While we were towards the front of the line, we still waited 1 1/2 hours to get to the front. We finaly leave the store, fully loaded with every item we wanted.
Next stop Target, this was just a quick stop across the street from Best Buy. A new color combanation Lava Lamp was on sale so I just stopped in and got the last one. Targets was very crowded but Target (or at least the one by me) knows how to handle crowds so the line was very quick like 3 min. In and out in 5 min not bad considering if I had to check out at best buy the expected time was 3 hours (seriously, we know someone who got in line at 8 and didnt get out till noon.)
The next store of importance was Sears. They had a Tool chest set on sale. It is one of those big units with 3 pieces. On sale for $270 wich is the cheapest I have ever seen it go for, ever. Payed for that but picked it up at around 6:00 PM, the car was full and we needed to unload.
Lastly I went to Circuit City. This was an item I knew would sell out, to good of a deal but I figured I'd try. I get there and there was none in the case, they said they sold out within the first hour. I asked them to look in the computer and shure enough it said they had 8 left meaning there must be a case in the back. They found it and I bought two. It was the IRiver Mp3 player 128 megs (older version). I always wanted this player before I got my Ipod, it was cheap enough now that I can have it as a second player. It has a built in FM radio and is the number 2 rated mp3 player (number 1 is the Ipod).
It was now 11:00, we all went to Millies. I had the Monte Cristo.
Later in the day after opening everything I showed my dad the Mp3 players. I thought that he would like one and showed them all the features they had. Best Buy had on sale a 512 MB version of the same one (except newer model) for $200 after rebates. I convinced him into getting one for himself so after we picked up the tool chests we stopped off at Best Buy again. It was strange walking in, it was very empty and looked like a tornado had gone threw it. They still had a few of those left so we got one of those.
I am now surrounded by boxes and styraphome strewn about the floor. My total for today equals about $4,000 but I shuld be getting about half that back in the mail. This day has been the best shopping day and I only have one regret, not getting 2 of those desktops.
