There are a couple of different stories goin around as to how it happened. Some people say that the tiger bit him in the hand so he hit it on the head with a microphone,. Thus severely pissing off the gargantuan feline. Some say that he made a sudden move that was not rehersed catching the tiger off guard. Either way, he let himself get entirely to comfortable around an animal that cannot, and will not ever be a domesticated animal. They had a game warden and tiger guy from India talk about it and he has been around tigers since he was like four (granted the guy is like 65). He used to care for the young cubs who's mothers were killed by poachers. He had raised somewhere around 120 of these animals and said that in no way could it ever be considered a domestic animal. If you judge tameness by being able to pet the animal, then they are tame. If you judge tameness by being able to take the animal out in public and let other people pet it, then they are not. Most importantly, if you judge tameness by the animals predictability, it is one of the most untame animals ever kept in captivity.
