Mormons used to be polygamists, but I thought they denounced the practice a long time ago.
Having lived in Utah and knowing many people that belong with that religion I can tell you a couple of things. Most the time when they "denounce" these beliefs it is complete hipocracy. They denounced polygamy (actually polyginy) because the federal government came through and said that it was against federal law. The feds came through and said that it was illegal and amazingly, someone had spoken with Jesus and found out it was wrong¿ The same thing happened with the allowance of blacks in the church. When the feds came in and said that there was to be no more segregation, again a vision came to the same damn person, this time stating that it was wrong to keep this part of the brotherhood out. Mind you that blacks still cannot hold any high ranking in the church itself. I am not just basing this all upon the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The same kind of things happen in every religion. These instances may be a little less dramatic, but they are there still there. I just believe that if you believe in a religion that deeply, you shouldn't need that much organization. A belief structure is somebodies personal business. There is nobody that should tell you how to believe in it. It is something that is supposed to be held within. Nobody has the right to tell somebody if they are doing it wrong. That is why I choose to be agnostic. Judging by the way that every church has acted in the past, I wouldn't be caught dead partaking in any of their bullsh!t. What I believe, is what I believe. Nobody can change that, and nobody has the right to tell me that I am wrong. Sorry for dragging the answer to this question out, but the convenience of how the lord spoke to this man to correct him in this very, very convenient matter has always pissed me off. He could just admit that his organization was wrong, but he had to say that it was the lord that had to tell him.
