tire pressure monitor

Anybody else have this happen? My tire pressure monitor keeps coming on, there is nothing wrong with my tires or rims. I took it to the dealer, they could not find any faults in the memory, yet it still is there. They are checking with engineering to see what to do next. Could this be a bigger issue like a circuit board starting to go?

I don't know how much I can help you out here, but I can tell you that tire pressure monitors on new cars (no matter what company the car is from) have really proven to be a pain in the ass. The 04 G35 Coupes come with the tire pressure monitor, and quite a few owners on G35Driver have had the same issue as you. Also, my father's 2004 MB S500 4Matic with a tire pressure monitor was totally defective. The display within the speedometer is supposed to tell you exactly how much psi in all four tires, but when you wanna see the tire pressures, it just says "Tire Pressure Monitor Error" or something stupid like that. He has not gotten it fixed yet. Basically, I think it is just an electrical issue and I have a feeling that these tire pressure monitors are just very sensitive (since it's their job to be sensitive).

I agree with you on all counts. If there was a way to eliminate the stupid thing, I would do it. However, that is probably not an option. If in fact, it is an electrical problem, what worries me is that it could be tied to something else and lead to bigger issues. These newer cars are so evolved that its hard to understand how they work sometimes. I understand old cars because thats what I grew up with and to try to put that understanding to the new cars just doesn't always work. In theory and some instances it comes close, but.... [???1] Guess, I'll just have to wait and see. It is reasurring in a weird way to see that its not limited to M3's or BMW in general, but it is definitely a pain in the rear that no one wants, especially in an expensive car.

I get the same problem Debbie, to reset it, just push and hold down the the Anti-lock button for a few seconds. Recently I've increased my PSI to about 34 psi and it seems to be holding fine.

Unfortunately, Tom, my problem is a little different. Once I hit reset, it will come right back on. I generally run 34 psi also, however, what happened was very strange, my tire pressure increased to different amounts in each tire. I honestly believe that there is something else going on. I had taken a ride up to Sacramento through the delta and as soon as I hit Brentwood, the light came on. Between there and Sac. I left it on, said to heck with it. Then on the way back, it bugged me, so I checked tire pressure each time it came on, 6 times in about 80 miles. When I got back to Brentwood, my tire pressure monitor was on and my blinker went out. New bulbs, too. Got home, hit reset, blinker still wacky. Two days later, the blinker is fine, I hadn't gotten the new replacement bulbs yet, but the tire monitor is still coming on. I told the dealer I thought there was something electrical going on because periodically my cd player which is part of the Harmon Kardon package or whatever they put in, would skip for about 15 to 20 seconds, almost like it shut off, not a delay. And it happened in the same place here in town each time. Each time I have had a serious problem, it was driving through the delta and near Brentwood. Their advice was funny....don't go there anymore. They think it may be a frequency issue of some kind, which in my mind would indicate something electrical if old school thoughts apply. Beats the heck out of me, I just want it fixed. I miss my car.

I thought I had an issue with mine way back. It kept coming on. Tires all looked fine, but I ended up having a nail in one of my rear tires with a VERY slow leak. However it was nothing like what you are experiancing. Good luck getting that fixed.

The guys at the dealership had the car for 4 days and could not find anything going on. They called BMW engineering and they had them reset the computer based on some error # in the book. Beats me, its working fine, now. Told my husband that I needed new rims, that would be the ticket to getting rid of the problem. Somehow, I don't think he bought into that one!

Glad you got the problem sorted out. They should have done that final fix after you convinced your hubby to buy the new rims, though. [:D]
