The dealers and independent shops told me that the E39 V8s don't have too many problems with the water pumps, it is mainly E39 I6 and the 3 series. Mine has a metal impeller. Also.., when it comes the O2 sensors, I was thinking that if they malfunction and cause more rich fuel it can damage the CAT's and since mine have not been replaced either I know the bill there is very high.
Water pump - replace before it fails???
