What's the fastest you've gone in your M???

Last tuesday my girlfriend got sideswiped by a tractor trailer on her way home. luckily she was fine, the whole right side of her car was ripped up pretty good, blew out the front tire, the guy ran her off the road.. f**ker didn't even stop, he kept going. my girl being stressed out and having to manage to keep her car under control from 75mph with no front tire wasn't able to get the plate #, a guy behind her stopped to make sure she was alright and stayed until the police showed up to give his statement as a witness that the guy just kept going.

ok, long lead in to a short question.

i went to go pick her up as the car was not driveable. i knew she was ok and the highway she was on is very open. being that it was the middle of the afternoon (2pm) and the weather was beautiful, i figured that since i knew she was ok - i would fly down there and i could use the accident as an excuse for speeding if i was to get pulled over (easily verified).

sooooo, on a long straight i opened her up.. its not often i get the chance to floor the pedal so i figured if i was going to do it, do it right. i was cruising up to about 120mph and could see way ahead of me - nothing in front, no cars, open road - so i kept the pedal pinned... 130mph.. car doesn't even feel unstable, actually felt more solid, engine not stuggling just pulling.. 140mph. i was getting a little nervous - not because of the car but because of the speed and thinking that my excuse probably wouldn't work.. so i kept it pinned for just a few more seconds, when i saw the speedo hit 150mph, i backed off.

that's the fastest i've ever been in a car, definitely a rush!!! one thing that's amazing about speed. the whole process probably took about a minute, if that. its just that when you start going over 100mph, it seems like time slows down, you're very aware of everything that's going on, senses heightened - exhilarating.

i'm sure lots of people in this forum have gone faster... but it was pretty cool for me. being that it was my car made it better. just amazed me at how comfortable the car felt at that speed, no question of stability - just rock solid.

anyone else?

Drove a '97 BMW 850ci down the autobahn south of Munich a few years ago, hit 290 KPH (about 190 MPH) and backed off the car seemed more stable as the speed increased, of course the engine was modified. Beautiful car - a personal favorite.

I know there is faster. (BTW this isn't racing)

Not an M, but on 118mph rated tires I got my 16 year old 325is to 120 mph. After I get some new shoes for the car and suspension I'll definitely push it to it's limit.

Not 150, but still pretty fast. Anything over 60 will kill you anyways [:p]

Cool. I doubt your "excuse" would have worked, but what's important is that you got away with it.

I hit 101 today passing some *&%@@#@& truck shedding dirt everywhere. Had a red, patched-together Honda Civic driven by some skin-headed kid wearing a very mean expression and headphones on my tail the whole time. When I got past the truck and slowed down, the civic continued at the same rate, until he saw a motorcycle cop on the side of the road who was giving us both the stink-eye.

What's weird is that the civic looked exactly like my old car reincarnated - - my son (who also has a mean expression at times) totaled it two years ago.

So my point is.. I forgot. [???1]

postscript to my story

Well.. today my girl received a call from the honda dealership about her car. they wrote her vehicle off as a total loss. so, now she has to get a new car!! not that its a problem as she wanted something new, we were planning on getting her a new car by the end of the year anyway.

Now that she's driven in my car, she's fallen in love with BMW's. She had a 2001 Accord, which was extremely practical, very reliable, and just excellent overall. As far as car manufacturers go, I think they're great cars. She loved her car, never had problems with it other than little minor things. But, now she's ready to step up. plus, she likes the status of bmw's

She doesn't want anything like my car as I've mentioned in other posts, she's a little nervous about driving it -- a little to much of a thoroughbred for her. but she loves the 3 series and she wants a sedan.

we're looking at the 325xi or just the 325i sedan, debating between the two. any suggestions? we live in southern NJ so we get a decent amount of snow during the winter... i keep telling her that i've had 4 bimmers RWD. they're absolutely horrible in the snow.. especially my current one. i've never driven an Xi in the snow so i don't know how well they handle but its got to be better than the RWD.

she doesn't really care, but she's had the Accord which i thought drove like a tank in the snow, i never worried about getting stuck - the thing just barrelled through snow. her arguement is that we only (really) get snow for about two months out of the year, for overall general performance she thinks that RWD is better, especially since BMW is known for their handling characteristics. what are your opinions as we have to make a choice by next week and any opinions would be helpful. thanks!

Just get a 325ix, and drop an E39 M5 engine into that puppy. She'll be able to take your M3 any day [burnout] [:p] (i know no guy wants his girl to have a faster car than him -- or maybe that's just me, but i wouldnt want my girl to have a faster car!!!) [kick]

my girlfriend had a wedding to go to in Atlantic city today, i wasn't going but i thought i'd drop her off as a precaution so that she wouldn't have to drive if she became inebriated. it was the best day we've had in a long while.. about 75 degrees out, no clouds, perfect. there's a long stretch right before you get to atlantic city, about 4 lanes wide. pretty straight. i coudn't resist, as there was no spot on the side of the road for police.... ran it up to 140 for a a couple of miles... went around some turns at that speed, car just felt buckled to the road... it just amazes me how much that car just keeps impressing me.. also, later in the day.. i pulled of the stock oem's that i keep on for the winter.. put the super shiny chromes on... as soon as i did, went and had the car cleaned... got a ton of compliments and looks.. the shiny rims do attract a lot more of attention.... i love my M.
