Ok I am supposed to be in Iraq....right now. All my friends, commrads and Brothers in Arms are there. Not because they want to be per say....but because they are patriots, and in that comes following the orders of the President of the United States irregardless of their personal feelings. I served for 12 years and was deployed to various shit hole countries during my tenure and am only a civilian now because I broke my back in a training accident preparing for this war. I was put out of the Army only 2 1/2 months ago. One of my soldiers has been killed already and my unit has only been in theater since Feb so I can relate to loss of family.

Draft? I don't support it!!!!!!!!!
The thing that makes our military so mighty is the fact that we have an ALL voluntary force.

If y'all want to knock the Government and the President cool...whatever....but don't say that IF you were drafted it would ruin your life. I say do YOUR part. Earn a right to bitch about a Government that you willingly put a uniform on to defend. At least you have a choice as did I and still do. I may be a civilian, but I STILL work for the Army...why? Because I love Soldiers. I fuc*in hate politicians that make policy about our military that never had the courage to put on a uniform themselves and have no clue what it is like to lead a squad into a hostile zone.

I am not throwing spears and pointing anyone out, this is just my view having been a soldier (SSG) less than 3 months ago.

yeah if there were a draft, i would enlist and get some geek job. i have a friend who joined the military when he was younger (he is some 45 years old now) and he became a nuclear missle guidance technician. he said he did it cause he could never see the US using nukes within the next 50 years.

Great article! I don't think we will see a draft because of the $$$$; we are already deep in debt as it is. And with the unemployment rate still at a higer rate, there should be enough joining I would think.

I think a lot of people don't understand the national debt. In a nutshell, America owes money to itself...we could basically forgive all the "national debt" and be fine, one would notice a change in anything. This "national debt" is simply a card played by politicians for their benefit. i hate it when politics go into the whole debt thing, it doesnt even technically exist...its a bunch of loans from one department to another, extramanoey that a department didnt need/use that year.

Excuse me but where did you ever get that idea? It is REAL debt and I cant even understand how anyone could think this. This money MUST be paid back. Sure, we can issue more debt in its place and roll it over but how long can you keep doing this while it grows?

Your comment scares me because I just don’t understand how people cannot appreciate the implications of this debt. If the US were not to honor the debt it would crush the worldwide economy and the world biggest debtor, the United States would suffer dramatic consequences.

Debt MUST be issued to resolve budget shortages! This is mostly to foreign governments and individuals. It is real, it is legal, and it is OWED!!!!!

I am not trying to slam you but could you PLEASE tell me how you ever got this idea? The debt is a vary serious matter.

Please, please, please let me know where you got this from. I have NEVER heard anything like it before.

Took an economics/government class in school. As far as I learned, and what the teacher taught, American Debt is.... money that is borrowed from lets say the DOT, because they have money left over in their budget, and some other area of government, lets say agriculture, didnt have enough...so they take out a legitimate loan from the DOT, which must be paid with interest, like any other loan. Maybe he just didnt want to teach in detail, or is really dumb....but thats what I learned. It seems to make sense...i never here any specific situation anywhere, saying that we are borrowing money from the UK, or whoever the hell we borrow money from, and its for 'x' amount of dollars. I am not much into economics...except for a few area's...so am not saying I am right...but I thought I was taught correctly?

Part of what the teacher said is true. But there is a huge amount of public debt (that which is non-US government) and a large amount is owned by foreign governments. The public debt can be purchased and traded by anyone. [wave]

Shit alot of people arn't cut out to be in the Army either. I know the Marines has its fair share of dirt bags also. I have a very close cousin who is with the 1st Marine Exp, he is in Iraq now....in the Fallaja area. Nice to hear from another service member.
Peace
