M5s no longer have the same look appeal that they once had... especially with the new M5 comming out soon. I would settle for a new supercharged M3 for that price.

If I had 65k to spend and wanted anice sports car, I would do this : I would buy a duPont Registry, leaving me with roughly $64,993.01. Then, I would search for used M5s. I would select the best one in the price range and buy it.
DuPont Registry has a lot of nice pictures, and may put you in touch with a high line dealer, but the cars tend to be overpriced and you can find more M5s through these sites:

You may not want to supercharge an E46 M3. That engine is already high compression, and if you lower the compression to handle the boost, you will change the nature of the car.

I have yet to see a tuner supercharge an E46 M3. Has anyone else seen it?

braht, G-Power has a E46 M3 supercharged. 476 horses.
I see, very interesting. They quote 4.7 secs for 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) and a top speed of 300 kph (187 mph). That is at .65 bar, which translates into around 9.425 PSI (1 bar = 14.5 PSI) of boost.

I would have thought that it would have resulted in a faster car, but I guess traction is a problem with all that power.

www.g-power.de for anyone interested.

i did not check, but is it possible they limit the car at 300? i mean that number is almost to straight to be the real physical finish line. and now i'm just too lazy to go back and check

I was speaking more in terms of the 0-62 time, not the top speed.

I doubt it is electronically limited to 300 kph, but ICBW. Gearing and wind resistance are probably the reason why it is ONLY 300 kph.

Anyone have insight on the next offering of the M3? One major issue is the negative reports I've read concerning the harsh operation of the SMG...supposedly being remedied with the next model. Will it be offered in 2004 or 2005? If I choose the M3, I will wait until early spring since winter is approaching.

I have seen a few super charged E36 M3 's here in South Africa, they are mainly done by a guy called Rob Green, these cars pack some serious power( rgmotorsport.com ). I have been in one that my friend owns. This car makes the sounds I have ever heard

911 Turbo is my dream car

Its actually the car i would buy if i could have afforded it now. I'm planning on the turbo being my next vehicle once i'm finished with the M. I've always wanted a 911 turbo as i have good memories of my dad owning a 911T and a Targa when i was a kid. I loved those cars.

Although, I've seen some spy pics of the M4... looks hot. although it will be a V8 with 400hp. but not until 2005 or so. We'll have to see.

But, you've gotta agree. 911 turbo is a completely different level of car vs. the M3. I'm not putting the M down by any means. but with the porsche... you, especially the turbo, regardless of 993 or 996, you're in (almost) exotic category status with those.

I've owned a TT and I agree with all the positives that were posted. Let me give you a downside. Porsche 911s are high quality cars, but when they break down they cost a fortune to repair. Also, routine maintenance is sky high. I knew several other 911 owners and I heard some real horror stories for maintenance nightmares. $5000 repairs and a wait of six weeks for necessary parts to arrive from Germany were not uncommon.

If the TT is going to be your "toy" and you have another car available as your daily driver, I would consider the TT. Otherwise, the M3 would be my recommendation. After you buy your M3, all maintenace is covered for four years. The M3 is an outstanding compromise between performance and practicality.
