Maintenance is far lower since the 993 model, Porsche elimintated the solid lifters which were always in need of adjustment - remember the old VW's ?, similiar story to the older Porsche's.

Oil changes are expensive, 2 Oil filters and an xtra large pan with I think 11 Quarts of oil - Mobile-1 synth $$$$, at least on the 95 911 (still air cooled). But if you can afford a Porsche, you should be able to afford upkeep.

Go with a 1995 or newer anyways. [thumb]

I think if you have 65k I'd even go with a slightly used 996. I've owned both and can tell you honestly the 996 is a better car. It handles SIGNIFIGANTLY better than the M3 and has a much better feel. My E46 M3 wasn't stock either, it was chipped out with coil covers for enhanced performance. I think the best way to describe the difference between the two cars is the overall feel of the car. You really have to push the M hard to appreciate it. The Porsche feels great "all" the time..whether your doing 20mph or 150..it has such a great feel that's 100% right no matter what speed your going. The M3 no doubt is a great car..but it does have a rough ride that gets tiring after awhile. The 911 NEVER gets tiring..mile after mile it just gets better and better. It's much more refined than you think..it almost feels slick it's so refined. I wasn't a believer until I actually bought a 911. It's the real deal..
